Clive Harris, PPP Practice Manager of the World Bank Institute,
closed the conference by saying that, just as pointed out by
the Vice-President of the World Bank for the Latin America and
the Caribbean Region, PPPs will continue playing a role in the
provision of essential infrastructure and in meeting the social
needs of the region.
During the conference we discussed recent approaches and
lessons learned on mechanisms implemented by governments
to facilitate PPP financing, innovations in financing
infrastructure projects, and fiscal risk control. This will be very
useful material to continue to deepen these issues and share
knowledge with other regions.
In a similar manner, Harris mentioned that a second
dissemination event on best practices in PPP financing will be
scheduled in Central America over the following weeks.
On the other hand, he mentioned the significant online
participation through the Global PPP Network, with
approximately 400 participants from about 50 countries.
He also pointed out the intention to provide an important
database related to PPP projects and contracts.
Finally, he expressed his gratitude for the significant support
granted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the
Government of Spain, PPIAF and BBVA, as well as to the
speakers, panelists, moderators and interpreters; he thanked
especially the organizing team of the event from the Latin
America and the Caribbean Region and the World Bank
Institute. Finally, Mr. Harris thanked all the participants who
contributed toward the success of the event.
