10 Non-Residential Services
(Commercial, Industrial, and Agricultural)
This section describes Power Company requirements for non-residential services. This section covers
single-phase and three-phase services for direct-connect and transformer rated sockets for meters. All
non-residential customers are responsible for coordinating service requirements with the Power
Company prior to material purchase and installation.

10.1 Service Point Location for Meter and Equipment
The “service point” for a non-residential customer refers to the location where the Power
Company’s circuit connects to the customer’s system.
Meters and metering equipment shall be located outdoors. For post- or pole-mounted installations,
refer to Section 7, and choose the appropriate non-residential meter socket according to Section
10.3.
In locations where vehicles may pose a threat to utility equipment, barrier posts are required (see
Section 9.9). The customer is responsible for providing barrier posts for the protection of
electrical equipment.
Metering equipment shall not be installed in locations such as:
1. Any unsafe or inconvenient location, as determined by the Power Company.
2. Any hazardous location as defined by NEC for electrical equipment.
3. Directly over any window well, stairway, ramp or steps.
4. In any doorway.
5. Within 3 feet of a window that has a view of living space or restrooms.
6. In any place where moisture, fumes or dust may interfere with its operation or materially
damage the meter.
7. On any surface subject to excessive vibration, as determined by the Power Company.
8. On any distribution transformer cabinet.
9. On or recessed in the external surface of any wall or building that is built within 7 feet of a
property line, alleyway or driveway, except when permitted by the Power Company.
10. On a drive-through service entrance side of a non-residential building.
11. On mobile structures such as trailers, barges, cranes, dredges, draglines, mobile pumping
equipment or floating dwelling units such as houseboats.
12. No closer than 36” horizontally from gas meter, fittings and regulator.
13. An area where the equipment is likely to be fenced in.
This manual shall be distributed and interpreted in its entirety. Individual pages will not represent all the requirements necessary for an installation.
