German-Language Films Are Acquired by Casino NEW YORK—Casino Film Exchange, Inc., which specializes in the distribution 3f German-language films in the U. S., has acquired a considerable number of films from tlPA International G.M.B.H. and will release them early in 1961. Among the films are "Majestaet Auf Abwegen" ("His Majesty Goes Astray"), based on the Sinclair Lewis novel, "Let's Play King," and two musicals, "Schoen 1st Die Welt," a version of the Franz Lehar operetta. "The World Is Beautiful," featuring singer Rudolf Shock, and "Wien, Du Stadt Meiner Traueme" '"Vienna. City of My i Dreams" has been described in reviews as "one of the best Austrian productions made so far." Airer for $100j ORLANDO, FLA.—The Orange Blossom Trail Drive-In on the South Trail has been purchased for $100,000 from Theodore Pawela by a syndicate made up of all the drive-in theatre owners in Orlando. Al Horton of Colonial Drive-In and Jim Partlow of Prairie Lake Drive-In, spokesmen for the group, said the Blossom Trail would be paved and completely renovated. The name of the Blossom Trail has been changed by the new owners to the South Trail Drive-In. There are 15 acres in the property, with 300 feet on the Orange Blossom Trail. UA Film Is Completed ROME—"The Lady and the Monster," filmed in Eastman Color and Totalscope by Agliana-Merdini-Illiria Film, starring Bob Mathias. former Olympic star, and Rossana Schiffino, was completed recently for United Artists release. i I I ! Chamberlain, I which i Miami Professional Group Making 'Eternal Summer' MIAMI—Viscaya Productions is the corporate name of a group here making a movie, "Eternal Summer." It is a thoroughly professional group that is acting in and producing the film, but because many of the cast and technicians are gainfully employed elsewhere, most of the camera work is done on weekends and holidays when they are free. The entire cast and crew is Miamian. The only service performed off limits is the processing of film, which is being done in New York by Pathe. J. Van Hearn, a veteran film production e.x?cutive, wrote the script and is executi\e producer. Larry Wolk is directing and handling the cinematography with Lloyd Beckworth and Max Landow on camera; Marian Kley is script supervisor and film editor, and David Sargeant and Grant IGravitt are sound engineers. Others include Ted Sack, production manager; Zane Radney. unit manager; Ricki Winters, makeup, and Jack Winters, formerly with Wometco, public relations. In the cast are model-actress Gwen De- Castro, Jeff Brown, Ron Corsi, Maggi Yanka Mann, Bill Mayer, ,Dave Dundon, Thora Randall and Ed .Thomas. Locations being used include a home at 633 Woodcrest; Key Biscayne, is also headquarters for Viscaya; the .Singapore Motel in Bal Harbour; a Miami nightclub and various beach areas. Reconstruction Planned For Tallahassee House TALLAHASSEE, PLA. — Preliminary plans for reconstruction of the Florida Theatre have been approved and invitations to contractors to bid on the work are expected to be sent out next month. Tommy Hyde, vice-president of the corporation which owns the local theatres, said actual construction should get under way this fall. The theatre was destroyed by fire March 26. Much of the burned skeleton was demolished later to limit the danger of its falling in. Hyde said today that part of the existing structure can still be utilized. He said the front of the building and the old balcony section is reusable, although it will require extensive repairs. Fred H. Kent of Jacksonville, owner of the theatre, has already approved the preliminaiT plans. Hyde is currently living in Vero Beach operating theatres recently purchased by the Kent interests. He expects to return to Tallahassee later this year. MIAMI J^ one-man photography exhibit by Ralph Corey opened August 21 at Wometco's Mayfair Art Theatre and will continue through September 17. At the Sunset Art Theatre in South Miami, Ruth Romoser also has a one-man art exhibit . . Gloria . DeHaven of Miami Beach is leaving in October to entertain troops in Germany. October 31, she will be in London for an engagement at the Palladium and will do a television show for BBC. She plans to return home for a few days early in November before filling an engagement at the St. Regis in New York. Paul Sylbert, who with his twin brother Richard worked on such motion pictui-es as "Face in the Crowd," "Baby Doll" and "Splendor in the Grass," designed the set for the premiere of Tennessee Williams' play, "Night of the Iguana," currently at the Coconut Grove Playhouse. He plans to return to Greece and has written two motion picture scripts laid in that country. George Bourke, Miami Herald amusement editor, just back from a trip to Europe, reports that a Frankfurt, Germany, drive-in will feature two sound tracks on all films, in English and in German, as there is a big U. S. Army population in Frankfurt. The list of holdover films here is longer than it has been for a long time. Included are "Ben-Hur" at Brandt's Flamingo; "Can-Can" at Florida State's Sheridan; "Ocean's 11" at Loew's Riviera and 170th Street theatres, Hollywood in Hollywood and Florida State's Paramount; "Psycho" at Claughton's Trail and Florida State's Colony, and "Expresso Bongo" at Wometco's two art theatres, the Sunset and Mayfair . . . Clayton Conrad, in maintenance at Wometco's 27th Avenue Drive-In, underwent surgery recently at North Shore Hospital. For 18 years of continuous courtesy at Florida State's Beach Theatre, Oliver Richardson, 426 Lincoln Rd., won a courtesy award of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. Richardson, an employe at the theatre, was nominated by Shirley Linet P/e9SG 1 of 420 Lincoln Rd. He received a $25 savings bond. Marcia Ryan, in personnel at Wometco Enterprises, was married August 6, to Henry Newell in New Market, N. H. After a wedding trip to Cape Cod, the couple is at home at 642 Northeast 86th St. The bridegroom is with Acme Concrete Co., and formerly lived in Lowell, Mass. He served four years in the Coast Guard, with duty in Newfoundland and San Diego. Rainbow Pictures, Coral Gables motion picture studio at 1540 Levante, is planning an addition to its existing facilites. J. M. Lyell is the architect for the proposed addition . . . Maury Ashmann of Film Art is on a tour of Europe. Don Baker, manager of Loew's 170th Street Theatre, was having his troubles the other day on arriving at the theatre early to get a little work out of the way before show time. The theatre opens at 2 p.m. but for "Ocean's 11" patrons were not reading the timetable in the daily papers carefully and were showing up at 11 a.m. instead of the usual time. High Speed Photography Session Set by SMPTE NEW YORK—Fifteen internationally prominent scientists and engineers will serve on the Committee of Honor of the fifth international congress on high speed photography which the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers will sponsor October 16-22 at the Sheraton Park Hotel in Washington. Delegates from 20 foreign countries are expected to attend the congress which will survey the use of high speed photography as a basic tool in research. Meanwhile, the SMPTE has published a 181-page book, "Control Techniques in Film Processing. The book, which contains 73 illustrations, is designed for persons engaged in film processing in laboratories serving motion pictures, television and specialized fields. i'Spartacus' Promotion In Europe Under Way LONDON—Fortunat Baronat, director of foreign publicity for Universal-International Films, has completed conferences on promotion of "Spartacus," to open in early December at the Metropole Theatre. Accompanied by John Nelson-Sullivan, U-I's European publicity coordinator for the picture, he will conduct similar conferences in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and France before returning to the U. S. at the end of this month.
