Letter from the Co-Chairs<br />

Dear Members <strong>of</strong> the UD Community,<br />

We are delighted to <strong>of</strong>ficially welcome you to the annual Brother Joseph W.<br />

<strong>Stander</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong>. The <strong>Stander</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> showcases individual and collaborative<br />

undergraduate and graduate research, creative endeavors, and academic<br />

achievements. Above all, the <strong>Symposium</strong> and your participation showcase<br />

our shared values as members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dayton</strong> community. This is<br />

the 23rd year <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Symposium</strong>, honoring the late Bro. Joseph W. <strong>Stander</strong>, S.M.,<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Mathematics and Provost (1974–1989).<br />

This <strong>University</strong>-wide celebration <strong>of</strong> academic excel lence exemplifies the Marianist<br />

tradition <strong>of</strong> learning in community. The <strong>Symposium</strong>’s alternate day <strong>of</strong> learning<br />

includes poster sessions, hands-on activities, performances, art exhibits, oral<br />

presentations and highlights <strong>of</strong> capstone course work. The achievements and<br />

collaborations on display throughout the <strong>Stander</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> reflect the continuing<br />

commitment <strong>of</strong> students and faculty to this great tradition.<br />

The <strong>Stander</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> would not exist without an extraordinary effort from<br />

across the campus community – students, faculty and staff. On behalf <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Stander</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> Steering Committee, we thank you for your support and<br />

participation.<br />
