The FAST Show 2006
FAST is looking into the feasibility of
organising its very own show in June
2006. It is hoped that it can be located
somewhere in the Midlands in order to
make it equally accessible from all parts of
the UK (and even abroad). It is envisaged
that the show will be a weekend event
incorporating a custom show, stunting,
rideout, parts/trade fair, plus other daytime
and evening entertainment – all on one
site where there will be camping (also
close to B&Bs for those who require it) and
other facilities available.
However, there are a few things that
need to be addressed for them to be
able to do this.
One area is the organisation. A project
of this size will require the help and
assistance of a number of people.
Consequently, FAST is looking for
volunteers to help in putting this event
together. If you think you have a good
idea that can be incorporated into the
show and are willing to put your
organising efforts to good use, then
FAST want to hear from you.
Another area of concern will be
financing this venture (FAST is a nonprofit-making
organisation and, at the
moment, the only income generated is
from the sale of merchandise). If anyone
knows of any possible ‘FAST-friendly’
venue or track owners out there who
would like to be involved, then please let
FAST know. In fact, any dealers or
traders willing to provide sponsorship
for this event are welcome to contact
FAST. What they will get in return is a
mention in all publicity and literature
and the opportunity to get in on the
ground floor of what is hoped to be a
developing annual event.
It must be said here that what FAST
don’t want is an ‘armchair committee’
of cyber-scooterists making unrealistic
suggestions that they expect someone
else to implement. So, if you are one of
those, thanks but no thanks. If you have
a genuine offer of help, then please
contact fastautoclub@tiscali.co.uk with
your suggestions.
Racing ignition system
The new Malossi inner rotor ignition system is based on the stateof-the-art
technology applied to both scooter cross and scooter
racing. It was developed as a result of the need to overcome the
technical limitations imposed by conventional flywheel ignition,
which cannot ensure consistent performance over 10,000rpm and
causes severe setting-up problems for race machines.
After opting for a radical solution of the problem, Malossi can now
offer control units equipped with an inner rotor that provides regular
performance over 20,000rpm and eliminates all problems associated
with conventional ignition systems. These should fit all machines
using Minarelli motors, both horizontal/vertical, air- and liquid-cooled.
Check with your local VE dealer for compatibility. Retail prices
are available at VE dealers nationwide. Readers can locate their
VE dealer at www.ve-uk.com/postcode
Exclusive boot imports
Malcolm Rathmell Sport (MRS) have announced that they have been granted the
exclusive rights as importers for the Gaerne Moto X Boots. The Gaerne factory
decided that MRS would be the best people to deal with their complete off-road
market. MRS will receive their first delivery of boots in October and are keen to
continue a relationship with all the current dealers, so they would welcome any
further enquiries.
Everything you
need to know
Are you new to riding? Or are you about
to take your motorcycle test? If either of
these are the case then you might be
interested in the latest ‘all-in-one’ book
from Haynes.
Learn To Ride contains all the
information you need to know about the
art of mastering two wheels. It combines
all the elements that you will require to
take a bike test (including a list of theory
questions) and relates riding advice to
real-life situations you might experience.
Priced at £12.99, it is available from
most good bookshops or you can get it via
the Haynes website at www.haynes.co.uk
Innovative
Snitcher
Datatool have developed a theft
text alert designed specifically
for bikes. The Snitcher sends a
text message to the owner’s
mobile if the vehicle is
tampered with, using a
modem, rather than a
cellphone, to make the call. It is
ideal for bikes that are routinely
parked out of earshot, eg
outside flats, offices, hotels, in
town, in lock-ups, etc. It can be
set up via the owner’s mobile
phone and is easily
reprogrammed to report to a
friend or neighbour should the
owner be away.
It utilises an Orange pre-pay
SIM card, offering Europe-wide
coverage. The only operating
cost will be the standard Orange
text charge per trigger or command. Owners receive a maximum
of three alerts per trigger, after which it must be reset via ignition
(minimising the cost to the owner but maintaining security). It will
also send a text alert if the battery becomes discharged.
The price is £199.99 including VAT. Call 0870 165 2414 or visit
www.datatool.co.uk for further information.
