IGGY SAYS:
In the truest sense of the word, the CPI GTR
may not technically be a scooter because
the neat trellis frame takes up the space
between your legs (a scooter is defined by the
step-through design).
But a trellis isn’t just good for growing
tomatoes, it also stiffens the chassis up
immensely so it’s no bad thing. Along with the
large wheels it gives the CPI the kind of
handling and stability usually only found on
bikes. The special edition Jordan paint job helps
this machine stand out from the crowd (like it
needs any help!) and coupled with the funky
styling and attention to detail (the trick fivespoke
rims for instance) this moped deserves to
fly out of the showrooms.
I wasn’t too keen on the look of the
digital display and analogue rev counter on this
scoot (I think it could have been a bit neater
than it is), but apart from that I couldn’t
really fault it.
The CPI’s two-stroke engine
sounds lovely through the gorgeous
polished stainless steel exhaust and
it goes well too, it actually gave our
fastest 0-30mph time at 7.26
seconds – respect. The top end
was slightly slower than the Derbi
but there wasn’t much in it to be
honest. Like the Derbi, the CPI
also only gets a side-stand so
it’s worth bearing this in mind if
you’re likely to park it
somewhere precarious every day.
The GTR may always be a confused
little bunny, ‘Am I a bike or a
scooter?’ but who cares ’cos it is a
beautiful creation.
