WIN A BOSS ALARM LOCK
This is your opportunity to win
an alarm lock (worth £59.99)
courtesy of Oxford Products.
The Boss alarm (as reported in
TAG 43) is the latest in
technology and has been fiveminute
attack tested and
approved under the Thatcham
vehicle security system. Its
100-decibel alarm module
means you couldn’t fail to
Suits you sir!
Many years ago I worked in A&E as a staff
nurse. We had a young lad in who had come off
his replica racing bike. He was fine but had
some numbness in his legs so was treated as a
suspected spine injury. He was wearing all-inone
Power-Ranger-style romper-suit that was
only a week old and matched his bike. I
explained that I would have to cut his romper
suit off to check for other injuries and to
protect his spine.
He was not too impressed. I explained
again why this had to be done and that his
home insurance would cover the cost of
replacement leathers. Still he wasn’t happy
but it had to be done.
Contacts wanted
I own a scooter shop here in
Montana and recently found a
Velocifero 50cc at a yard sale.
It's running but primarily needs
electrical and bodywork. There is
no way to get parts or
mechanical info in the US and I
don't speak Italian. I’d be grateful
for and contacts you may have to
help me get info and parts?
Gary Stein, Owner, Scooterville
Montana (scootmt.com)
notice that it had been
activated. It is suitable for use
under a varying range of
weather conditions and is
water, vibration, frost and
heatproof for use in all seasons.
Visit the Oxford Products
website at www.oxprod.com for
more information on this and
related accessories like chains
and anchor locks.
Don't know about anywhere in
the States, but we are being
told that the entire remaining
UK Italjet stock has been
purchased by someone who
used to work for the original
importers Italjet UK. We are
also told that they are in contact
with the Italians to ensure future
supplies. Tel 01142 548080 or
Practical scootering
I am thinking of buying a scooter, as I live in a city, and it would be
better and cheaper than having a car. I would be storing the scooter
under cover, but it would be outside as I do not have garage.
What are the practicalities of riding a scooter through winter
and storing it outside?
You’ll need a good set of thermally-insulated clothing as the
wind-chill factor makes it feel even colder than it actually is. Get
the best clothing (especially gloves and jacket) that you can
within your budget. If you are storing your scooter outside we
recommend finding something to lock it to (like a telegraph pole
perhaps) with a decent lock and chain. A protective cover
wouldn’t go amiss either. Be wary while riding as you will be
vulnerable on slippery surfaces.
As I and another nurse were cutting his
leathers off we noticed that he was wearing
tights. OK it was cold, fair enough. Further up
The Whitby Run
I recently attended the Whitby auto run
with a few mates. All of us rode our everfaithful
Lambrettas or PXs to meet up
with the main rideout at Goathland. I was
choked up at the sight of 100 or so
scooters (or that could have been the
rather large plume of two-stroke that
lingered in the village)? A good
attendance of autos and geared scooters
and no snobbery, plus a ride to Whitby, a
BBQ, couple of pints, live music, chat with
old faces and the sun had his hat on.
It's the future – young pups mingling
with the old boys – autos and classics
riding together.
Well done to those who organised
the event.
Andy
his legs we noticed that they were not tights but
stockings – lacy-topped stockings at that. OK, at
a push I can see why he was wearing them on a
cold January day, but as we reached his waist I
could see he was wearing a suspender belt too.
In fact when we had undressed him he was
wearing lacy-topped stockings, a suspender
belt, matching panties and bra!
I would like to say that this was a one-off,
but working in A&E and intensive care I can
say I've either seen similar things on more
than 20 occasions and heard similar stories
from other nurses.
Next time that racing bike zooms past with
the rider wearing a Power Ranger suit he could
well be wearing matching lingerie too!
Mark the medic
Scooting around town
I've just sold my bike (an Africa Twin 750) as I used it too little in town, and have a vague
plan to get a scooter instead. The only trouble – I'm 6ft 6in, and the only scooters I've
tried are all rather cramped. What should I be looking at? Stephen Lovegrove, London
You didn’t say what sort of scooter you had been looking at Stephen? If you are mainly
going to use it in town then perhaps a lightweight scooter might be more suitable than a
heavyweight maxi-scooter. Suggest you visit our website at www.whatscooter.com
where you will find that a lot of the scooter importers include the seat height within their
specs. This might assist you in making your decision.
