Daelim NS125 DLX Words: CP Pics: Stevie P With stylish looks and excellent finish the NS125 DLX is a cracking looking machine. The body is a well-styled shaped, with the front end looking very shark-like, thanks to the menacing stare of the twin headlights. The lines flow down and along the legshields to meet at the rear end in the same style, all finished off with a smoothly applied metallic blue paint job, very classy. What has been designed into this shape is an extraordinary amount of legroom and space for the rider, while still providing the usual glove box type compartment in the front and a larger than expected under seat storage area for a helmet and the like. There’s plenty of room for a pillion too, not only a spacious and comfy seat but also extended footboards and safe foldout footrests are provided. Behind the seat is a sturdy metal rack, just right for the optional top box to be fitted or a parcel to be bungee strapped on. Other optional extras include a handy screen to keep the elements off you and crash bars to protect the bodywork in the event of a fall. The seat is heavily shaped and padded, making the ride a comfy one as well as marking out everyone’s separate territory. All too often with a shapeless seat you can be sliding around infringing other folks’ space and private parts. Not so good if you have your granny, or mum, on the back. With the engine started the singlecylinder, four-stroke quickly settles into a smooth low frequency burble that responds well to the slightest throttle input. On the move, the four-valve 125cc engine is a revvy power plant that pushes both you and the scoot along ahead of the traffic at all times within the urban journey. Get out on the open road and the NS doesn’t embarrass itself in any way, stomping along at legal speeds and above. The constant vacuum carburettor provides good fuel economy, by only supplying the correct amount of fuel that the engine needs. You can open the throttle all you want but, if the engine demand isn’t there, the slide in the carb cannot lift and let fuel in. This is a superb way to supply juice to an engine and is only slightly down on performance against the very latest in fuel injection, it is cheaper to maintain and set up too. The net result is a responsive and accurately fed motor that is ready to respond at any time, adding to safety in busy traffic situations and making for a fun ride on the open road. No tachometer is fitted and you don’t need one, as the engine is capable of 42 NOVEMBER 05
