Robot to appear at NEC
Honda is to bring one of the most technologically advanced robots
ever created to the NEC Motorcycle and Scooter Show, which runs
from 28 October to 6 November.
ASIMO is the culmination of nearly two decades of humanoid
robotics research by Honda scientists and engineers. It can walk on
uneven slopes and surfaces, turn smoothly, climb stairs, reach for and
grasp objects, switch lights on and off, and open and close doors. It
can also comprehend and respond to simple voice commands and has
the ability to recognise the face of a select group of individuals. Using
its camera eyes, ASIMO can map its environment and register
stationary objects, allowing it to yield to pedestrians in its path until
they have gone past.
With an ever-increasing line-up of features for visitors of all ages to
try, the 2005 show is set to be the most interactive. Visitors will be
able to try out many brand-new features including the ‘Off-Road
Experience’ and the ‘Bike Rideout’ among other things.
