gives the best getaway). This shows
in the dyno printout that indicates
maximum torque to be around
5500rpm, while the maximum
horsepower is a further 2000 higher
up the rev range.
Trying to stop this big scoot
proves no more difficult than
opening the taps to get it to go in
the first place. The linked braking
means the front lever works on a
single front disc (the right-hand one for
those who are interested). While the
left lever (so effective on all scooter
designs), gets both the rear and left
front discs acting together. The result
of this combined assault on the kinetic
energy of the Xciting is a staggering,
and controlled reduction in speed.
There is an option to fit a full ABS
system to greatly increase the safety
side of stopping. Some may wish to go
for it, but the standard package works
well enough for me to be impressed.
From the front the engine unit looks
to be big and bulky, possibly
grounding out far too easily and
preventing excessive lean angles. In
use this isn’t the case and you can
flick it into corners with complete
confidence.
During my time on the big KYMCO I
could find only one fault: The mirrors are
not exactly useless, but are very difficult
to use on a casual, quick-glance basis
like in busy traffic or following a camera
car at high speed. They are positioned
exactly where bits of you are making
spotting that cop car an arduous task to
perform. The boys at KYMCO have it
covered though and promise subtle
changes to the design to make the rear
view a little easier to enjoy.
