Cleaning and Storage<br />
4. Connect the spark plugs to the spark plug wires and ground the spark plugs to the engine. With the<br />
main switch in the On position, the stop/run switch set to Run, and the transmission in neutral, press<br />
the electric starter button to crank the engine a few times. This procedure inhibits corrosion by<br />
coating the cylinder walls with the oil you poured in the spark plug holes.<br />
5. Set the main switch to the Off position and reinstall the spark plugs.<br />
Inflate Tires<br />
Inflate the tires to normal pressure.<br />
Remove, Clean, and Store Battery<br />
1. Remove the battery (see “Remove Battery” page 106).<br />
2. To clean oxidation from the battery posts and cable connectors, use a wire brush. Wash the posts and<br />
cable connectors with a solution of 1 part baking soda to 16 parts water. Rinse with clean water and<br />
wipe dry. Apply a thin film of dielectric grease to the posts and cable connectors.<br />
3. Clean the outside of the battery with a solution of mild detergent and warm water.<br />
4. Store the battery in a dry location that maintains a temperature of 32_ to 90_F (0_ to 32_C).<br />
5. While in storage, fully charge the battery once a month (see “Charge Battery” page 106).<br />
Park and Cover the Motorcycle<br />
Park the motorcycle in its storage location and lock the steering. Cover the motorcycle with a durable,<br />
breathable material or with a high -quality motorcycle cover designed for storage. Covering the motorcycle<br />
helps protect it from dust and other airborne materials. The cover must be of a breathable material to prevent<br />
moisture from building up on the motorcycle.<br />
