Pre-Operation Check<br />

Check Rear Brake Fluid Level<br />

1. To check the rear brake fluid level, remove the right<br />

side cover. Straddle the motorcycle and bring it to a<br />

vertical position.<br />

2. View the brake fluid through the reservoir. The fluid<br />

should be clear and at a level between MIN and MAX.<br />

Add brake fluid if necessary (see page 96).<br />

Check Hoses and Connections<br />

Inspect all brake hoses and connections for dampness or stains<br />

from leaking or dried fluid. Tighten any leaking connections<br />

and replace components as necessary.<br />

Check Brake Pads<br />

Look into the front brake caliper(s) from underneath, and into<br />

the rear brake caliper from behind, you should see at least 1/16<br />

inch (1.6 mm) of friction material on each of the brake pads. If<br />

in doubt, measure remaining friction material. Replace brake<br />

pads having less than the specified amount of friction material<br />

at their thinnest point.<br />
