<strong>Laboratory</strong> <strong>Automation</strong> <strong>Hardware</strong><br />

LabVision supports different basic topologies and<br />

media for the coupling of PI and UI (user interface,<br />

respectively work station) in order to reach a suitable<br />

projecting of the system hardware.<br />

As standard, a PI is coupled with a UI through a<br />

RS232 serial interface optinally a connection via<br />

USB or ethernet is possible. Light guides, RS485<br />

two-wire technology, or modems for 2 and 4 wire<br />

leased lines, or switched connection are available<br />

for the bridging of greater distances. The PIs can<br />

also be directly connected to a network via the<br />

Ethernet COM server. The UI can then be connected<br />

to every network socket.<br />

Several PIs can be connected to a UI via multiple<br />

interface cards.<br />

In order to run several independent applications,<br />

several LabVision licenses can work in parallel on a<br />

UI. All applications on UI use the same on-line data<br />

base so that every application can access the data<br />

points of other applications, if needed.<br />

With HiNet it is possible to cross-link several PIs to a<br />

UI. HiNet uses a RS485 twin wire as transmission<br />

medium and can cover distances up to approx. 1000<br />

m on a normal telephone cable. HiNet is easy to<br />

project.<br />

An evaluation computer in the office can be linked to<br />

a LAN in order to retrieve data for the evaluation.<br />

Distributed systems can be realised with the<br />

platform-overlapping standard CORBA (Common<br />

Object Request Broker Architecture). The standard<br />

Ethernet 10/100/1000 MHz, RJ45 Twisted Pair is<br />

used as transport medium.<br />

Devices of other manufacturers and field buses,<br />

such as the PROFIBUS DP, or the HART protocol<br />
