Introduction<br />

Structure of the guide<br />

The guide is structured<br />

<strong>in</strong> four parts.<br />

Part 1 <strong>in</strong>troduces the guide,<br />

and situates <strong>gender</strong> with<strong>in</strong><br />

Rio T<strong>in</strong>to’s core operat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of diversity and<br />

human rights.<br />

Part 2 is the core component –<br />

the “how to”. This section takes an<br />

<strong>in</strong>structive approach and provides<br />

clear direction on <strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>gender</strong> <strong>in</strong>to our work, as requested<br />

by the Communities practitioners<br />

who reviewed the guide.<br />

Part 3 provides additional<br />

read<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> those who want<br />

to delve more deeply <strong>in</strong>to<br />

the background debates.<br />

Part 4 provides a list of references<br />

used with<strong>in</strong> the guide, a list of<br />

Rio T<strong>in</strong>to references and some<br />

useful websites.<br />

Where the guide will have<br />

an impact <strong>in</strong> our work<br />

The guide will be relevant and<br />

useful <strong>for</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g areas of<br />

activity. Some of these activity<br />
