(b) an equivalent corrosion protection system which has been specifically approved <strong>and</strong> listed by the LPCB, with such tank entries<br />

marked ‘e’.<br />

5. The purchaser shall specify the required tank designation “Superior” or “Single” in accordance with the LPC Rules for <strong>Automatic</strong><br />

Sprinkler Installations, together with the tank reference number.<br />

6. The tank must bear a plate stating:<br />

(i) The name <strong>and</strong> address of the manufacturer.<br />

(ii) The date of installation.<br />

(iii) The LPCB Reference Number, including the type suffix (“Superior” or “Single”) which has been specified by the purchaser <strong>and</strong><br />

agreed by the manufacturer.<br />

(iv) The maximum capacity in cubic metres. Multi-supply tanks must indicate the capacity for the automatic <strong>sprinkler</strong> system separately.<br />

Tanks which do not bear such a plate are not approved.<br />

7. Specifiers of LPCB approved <strong>sprinkler</strong> suction tanks are advised to ensure that where a vortex inhibitor is used in accordance with the<br />

LPC Sprinkler Rules, that the vortex inhibitor used is listed in Part 5 Section 14 of the Red Book as LPCB approved.<br />

8. Where “Superior” tank shell exteriors are not protected by 610g/m 2 or equivalent, appropriate inspection, service <strong>and</strong> maintenance<br />

shall be specified. Exterior shell protection of 300g/m 2 galvanising is set as the minimum acceptable level of exterior protection coupled<br />

with specified inspection service <strong>and</strong> maintenance.<br />

9. Immersion heaters used to prevent the ball valve <strong>and</strong> <strong>water</strong> in the vicinity from freezing shall be dual element type.<br />

All tank approvals are strictly subject to tanks being supplied in accordance with LPCB Approved Conditions set out in the ‘Introduction’.<br />

For galvanized steel tanks, Type “Superior”, the designation ‘g’ refers to tanks protected by 610g/m 2 each side <strong>and</strong> the designation 'e'<br />

refers to equivalent corrosion protection as set out in Item 4 of the Introduction.<br />
