(d) When a casual employee is hired into a regular position, the total hours worked will be converted<br />
and credited as seniority in accordance with Article 12.1 (Seniority Defined) and as continuous service<br />
for the purposes of Article 18.1 (Annual Vacation Entitlement).<br />
30.3 Casual Call-in Procedures<br />
Qualified casual employees will be called in order of seniority. See Memorandum of <strong>Agreement</strong> #1 (RE:<br />
Local Issues).<br />
30.4 Leaves of Absence<br />
(a)<br />
The Employer will grant, on written request, leave of absence without pay and seniority:<br />
(1) for casual employees to seek election in a federal, provincial, municipal, first nations or<br />
other Aboriginal election for a maximum period of 90 days; and<br />
(2) for casual employees elected to a public office for a maximum period of five years.<br />
(b) A casual employee eligible to vote in a federal, provincial, municipal or first nations or other<br />
Aboriginal election or a referendum will have four consecutive clear hours during the hours in which<br />
polls are open in which to cast her ballot.<br />
(c) In the case of compassionate leave, casual employees are entitled to leave as per<br />
Article 20.1 (Compassionate Leave) without pay.<br />
(d)<br />
Attendance at court arising from employment will be with pay and travel expenses if required.<br />
(e) Notwithstanding any provision for leave in this <strong>Agreement</strong>, the Employer may grant a leave of<br />
absence without pay to an employee requesting leave for an emergency or other unusual circumstances.<br />
All requests and approvals for leave will be in writing. Upon request, the Employer will give reasons<br />
for withholding approval.<br />
(f) An employee who resigns her position and within 60 days is re-employed, will be granted a leave<br />
of absence without pay covering those days absent and will retain all previous rights in relation to<br />
seniority.<br />
30.5 Paid Holidays and Vacation for Casual Employees<br />
Casual employees will receive 10.2% of their straight-time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations and paid<br />
holidays.<br />
30.6 Application of <strong>Agreement</strong> to Casual Employees<br />
The provisions of Articles 13 (Layoff and Recall), 14.5 (Flextime), 14.7 (Standby Provisions), 16.10<br />
(Overtime for Part-Time Employees), 17 (Holidays), 18 (Annual Vacations), 19 (Sick Leave), 20 (Special<br />
and Other Leaves), 23 (Technological Change), 27 (Health and Welfare Benefits) and 31 (Municipal<br />
Pension Plan) do not apply to casual employees.<br />
30.7 Statutory Holidays<br />
A casual employee who works on a designated holiday will be compensated at time and one-half for the<br />
hours worked.<br />
30.8 Regular to Casual Status<br />
Regular employees may apply to transfer to casual status. Upon transfer such employees will be entitled<br />
only to such benefits as are available to casual employees. Such employees will maintain all accumulated<br />
seniority to the date of transfer.
