Prize of the <strong>German</strong> <strong>Historical</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>London</strong><br />
The <strong>German</strong> <strong>Historical</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>London</strong> awards an annual prize of<br />
DM 6,000, known as the Prize of the <strong>German</strong> <strong>Historical</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />
<strong>London</strong>, for an outstanding work of historical scholarship. The prize<br />
is sponsored by Veba Oil and Gas UK Limited, and was initiated in<br />
1996 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the GHIL.<br />
In 2001 the prize was awarded to Ulrike Lindner for her thesis, entitled<br />
’Politik—Gesundheitswesen—Patienten: Maßnahmen und Auswirkungen<br />
von Gesundheitspolitik in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland<br />
und Großbritannien, 1948–65’, submitted to the University of<br />
Munich.<br />
To be eligible a work must be:<br />
1 a Ph.D. thesis written at a UK or <strong>German</strong> university and, as a rule,<br />
submitted to the university within the 12 months prior to the closing<br />
date<br />
2 on a subject matter taken from the field of UK or <strong>German</strong> history<br />
or UK–<strong>German</strong> relations or comparative studies in the nineteenth<br />
or twentieth century<br />
3 unpublished.<br />
An entry which has been submitted to a UK university must be in<br />
English and on <strong>German</strong> history or UK–<strong>German</strong> relations or a comparative<br />
topic; an entry which has been submitted to a <strong>German</strong> university<br />
must be in <strong>German</strong> and on British history or UK-<strong>German</strong> relations<br />
or a comparative topic.<br />
