30 Trading operations<br />
Trading operations included <strong>with</strong>in the Cost <strong>of</strong> Services are the markets operations in both <strong>Blackburn</strong> and<br />
<strong>Darwen</strong>. The expenditure and income in relation to these trading operations is included <strong>with</strong>in Planning Services.<br />
The total turnover for both markets was £1,355,300 (£1,420,000 in 2010/11), resulting in a combined deficit for<br />
the year <strong>of</strong> £595,150 (£4,455,000 in 2010/11). The large deficit reported in the previous year resulted from the<br />
recognition in the surplus/deficit on the provision <strong>of</strong> services <strong>of</strong> revaluation losses in respect <strong>of</strong> the former<br />
<strong>Blackburn</strong> Market complex. This site was subsequently closed and the market re-sited <strong>with</strong>in the extended Mall<br />
Shopping Centre from June <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
31 Members’ allowances<br />
Total allowances paid to Members during <strong>2011</strong>/12 were £552,673 (£611,358 in 2010/11).<br />
