5. Food security
Information collection and management on issues related to food security should
focus on:
i) Improving access to food;
ii) Improving use of underused resources;
iii) Reducing waste;
iv) Enhancing natural productivity; and
v) Developing aquaculture
Similar to policies for sustainable development and responsible fisheries, the
information to be gathered and managed for policies related to food security may
also be applicable for different aquatic ecosystems (Table 2) with different
priorities and importance. For food security major priority issues are for all the
ecosystems.
