8 Consultation<br />
An important element of reviewing the <strong>Surf</strong> <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Rural</strong> <strong>Strategy</strong> was to seek the views and<br />
opinions of the community and stakeholders. Stakeholders consulted during the project<br />
included:<br />

Agricultural Industry representatives<br />
Tourism Industry representatives<br />
Council staff are considered to be critical in the consultation process as they are responsible<br />
for the day to day administration of the planning scheme and able to articulate its<br />
performance relative to the <strong>Shire</strong>’s objectives for rural land.<br />
The full details of this consultation are documented in the Stage 1 – Background Report<br />
No.1 Issues Paper and Consultation Findings. A summary of the findings is presented<br />
below.<br />
8.1 Issues Paper<br />
An Issues Paper - <strong>Surf</strong> <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Shire</strong>: An examination of the <strong>Shire</strong>’s rural strategy and<br />
policies: Stage 1 Issues Paper was prepared prior to the consultation and circulated to<br />
workshop participants as a basis for discussion. The paper provided analysis and<br />
discussion on the following:<br />
Review of the 1997 <strong>Rural</strong> Land Use <strong>Strategy</strong>;<br />
Trends in rural land use;<br />
<strong>Surf</strong> <strong>Coast</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> Trends in Agriculture;<br />
Key Actions Plans and Strategies; and<br />
Audit of <strong>Surf</strong> <strong>Coast</strong> Planning Controls.<br />
A number of workshop participants also provided written feedback on the Issues Paper.<br />
These were reviewed and incorporated into the consultation findings.<br />
