Pockets of heavy infestation at several locations. Light to moderate defoliation of windbreaks in Verner- Sturgeon Falls area. Numerous on reproduction at one point in Thistle Twp. Heavily infested trees at many locations in 1965. Population levels increased in 1965. Heavily defoliated trees common. Small clumps of lightly infested trees in Hugel and Gillies Limit twps. Found in small numbers in most stands examined. More common in spruce stands than in 1964. Quantitative samples in Caldwell, Bonfield, and Gillies Limit twps. showed 3, 5, and 8 per cent of buds infested respectively. Small numbers widely distributed through the district. Colonies common at widely separated points. Special collections from Bonfield and Strathcona twps. Small groups of heavily infested trees in McLaren, Merrick, and Firstbrook twps. Lightly infested trees in East Ferris, Caldwell, and Kirkpatrick twps.
