HAMM, Maurice<br />
WWI<br />
Maurice was a 20-year-old clerk when he joined the CEF on November 1, 1917.<br />
He had been born in Mahone Bay and listed his mother, Mary Hamm of Mahone<br />
Bay. as his NOK. Maurice went overseas with the 10 th Siege Battery of the <strong>Canadian</strong><br />
Garrison Artillery and was stricken by the Spanish influenza on November 8, 1918.<br />
He returned to Mahone Bay in the spring of 1919 in a much weakened condition. On<br />
March 10, 1922, Maurice succumbed to the effects of that influenza.<br />

HAMMOND, Thomas Edward<br />
WWI<br />
Thomas was a 28-year-old labourer from Scarsdale when he enlisted on September<br />
18, 1915 in Sussex, NB. In early September 1916, the <strong>Canadian</strong> Corps was ordered<br />
to France to take part in the ongoing Somme Campaign. He was reported as missing<br />
during the fighting around Courcelette on September 17, 1916. His body was never<br />
recovered and he is memorialized along with 11,169 <strong>Canadian</strong>s who were killed in<br />
France and have no known grave on the Vimy Memorial.<br />

HANDSPIKER, Robert F.<br />
PEACETIME<br />
Robert was born in Digby, NS, in 1940 and served on the Bonaventure, Athabaskan,<br />
Alconquin, Protecteur, Cornwallis RCNH, Stadacona, CFH, Petawawa CMED and<br />
the Comd Surg Staff. He received the CD (2), OSJ. He was a Federal Firefighter<br />
for twenty years and a Provincial Firefighter for 25 years. He served in the Medical<br />
Branch from 1960-1987 and retired in 1987. Robert is a Life Member of the Digby<br />
Branch # 20 of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong>.<br />

HANSEN, Glen<br />
SPECIAL AREA DUTY<br />
Glen was born in Oxbow, SK, in 1947 and joined the RCN/CAF. He was a member<br />
of the Calais Branch #162 of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong> for thirty years. He<br />
received the CD 11, and the SSM. Glen passed away in 2008.<br />
