DICKIE, Herman Samier<br />

WWI & WWII<br />

Herman was born in Eastville in 1888, son of George and Georgina (McKeen)<br />

Dickie, and joined the Army in 1917, shortly after the death of his first wife,<br />

Elizabeth Fulton, and spent some time overseas. After the war, he married his<br />

second wife, Lelia Smith of Cross Roads, and they moved to California. Herman<br />

was an Air Raid Warden during WWII, and in 1943, during a blackout, he tripped<br />

and fell down a stairway fatally fracturing his skull.<br />

DICKIE, Lloyd George<br />

WWII<br />

Lloyd was born in Eastville in 1916, son of Clarence and Clarinda (Matheson)<br />

Dickie, and joined the RCAF in Halifax in 1944 and was stationed at St. Hubert,<br />

Quebec, and served there as a mechanic until his discharge in 1946. He married Avis<br />

MacLeod of The Falls, Colchester County. They first lived in Upper Musquodoboit,<br />

where he operated a machine shop, then in Middle Stewiacke where he built a house<br />

and had a combination shop and garage. He later worked at a garage in Stewiacke<br />

town. Lloyd passed away in 1976.<br />

DOREY, Halton Truman<br />

WWI<br />

Halton was severely wounded during a night time bombing patrol in no-man’s land<br />

on June 9, 1918, during the 2 nd Battle of Arras. He died three days later and is buried<br />

in plot 2 H 17 in the Wailly Orchard Cemetery. Halton was the son of H. Truman<br />

Dorey and Bessie Dorey of Newburne, Lunenburg County, NS. He joined the CEF<br />

on September 13, 1915, in Sussex, NB, at the age of 18.<br />

DOUCET, J. A. “Tony”<br />

SPECIAL DUTY AREA<br />

Tony was born in Collette, NB, in 1936, and joined the <strong>Canadian</strong> Army (Artillery)<br />

from 1955-1958 and the Naval Reserve from 1960-1985. Tony has been a member<br />

of the Calais Branch #162 of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong> for the past 28 years. He<br />

received the CD1.<br />
