Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong><br />
HENDERSON, George Donald<br />
WWII<br />
George, son of Charles and Bessie (Bonnyman) Henderson of French River,<br />
Colchester County, was born in 1916 and lived in Birch Hill as a young man. He<br />
enlisted in 1942 and took his training at Yarmouth, Camp Borden, and Hamilton<br />
Trade School. In England, he was attached to the 7/11 Hussars, 5 th Division and<br />
served in Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. He married Madeline Boland of<br />
Hamilton, ON, and settled there.<br />

HENDERSON, Allen Parker<br />
WWII<br />
Allen was born in Upper Stewiacke in 1920, son of Matthew and Ella (Miller)<br />
Henderson, and joined the Army in 1942 training in Yarmouth then joining the<br />
Forestry Corps in Val Cartier, Quebec. He was sent later that year to Scotland where<br />
he joined the Black Watch as a Bren Gun Carrier, a post he held until the end of the<br />
war. He was wounded in Kalcar, Germany, in 1945 and was hospitalized in Belgium<br />
for seven weeks. He married Vera Bailey and lived in Camden, NS, where he<br />
worked in the woods and operated a dairy farm. Allen passed away in 2001.<br />

HENNIGAR, James Lauchlin<br />
WWII<br />
Jim, son of William and AMY (Johnson) Hennigar of Cross Roads, was born in<br />
1921 and enlisted in 1940 in the 14 th AA Battery, RCA. In 1944, he joined the 1 st<br />
<strong>Canadian</strong> Parachute Battalion and was stationed in Shilo, MB, winning his wings in<br />
June 1944. He was sent to England and stationed at Buford for the remainder of the<br />
war. He returned to Canada and was sent to Niagara Falls for more training for the<br />
war in Japan and was discharged in 1945. He married Gladys Helen MacKenzie,<br />
and lived in Stellarton where he worked in a steel plant then in the food and<br />
restaurant equipment business. Jim passed away in 2005.<br />

HERSEY, Charles Henry<br />
WWII<br />
Charles was born in Digby, NS, in 1921 and served with the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong><br />
Medical Corps in Canada. Charles has been a member of the Digby Branch #020<br />
of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong> for 54 years.<br />
