Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion LOGAN, Jotham Wilbert WWI Jotham, son of Andrew and Martha (Cox) Logan of Pembroke and Cross Roads, was born in 1864. He attended Truro Normal College then taught school before entering Dalhousie University. He received his B.A. in 1894 and his M.A. in 1909 and taught Latin and Greek at the Halifax Academy. In 1914, Jotham enlisted, going overseas as Captain with the 25 th Infantry Battalion. He served in France and Belgium from 1915 - 1919. When the war ended, he returned to teaching at the Academy. He was a member of the Dalhousie faculty for fifty years and a Governor of the University, where he was well known and respected as an outstanding teacher. Jotham passed away in 1958. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. LOHNES, Gerald Freeman WWII Gerald was born on July 16, 1925, in Bridgewater, Lunenburg County. He was a member of the West Nova Scotia Regiment Cadet Corp. When the war started, he joined the Royal Canadian Engineers, Reserve Battalion, and on his birthday in 1943, he joined the Navy and served on the Granby Coquitiam and Humberstone in the High Seas. He received the 1939-45 Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the War Medal and the Atlantic Star. Gerald moved to Caledonia, Queens County, in 1957 and has been an active member of A. L. Patterson Branch #087 in Caledonia for 52 years. Gerald was given a Life Membership in 2004. Submitted by A. L. Patterson Branch #087 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LUND, H. Ernie WWII Ernie was born in Eastern Passage, NS, on December 28, 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at Halifax on July 10, 1941, and did his early training in Belleville, ON, with ITS, followed by Initial Flight Training in St. Catherines and Brantford, ON. He was commissioned on June 12, 1946, and served in various locations across Canada and overseas, including three years with 4 th Allied Tactical Air Force in France. He was given many assignments, including OC Air Rescue centres, Air Traffic Controller, RCAF Detachment Commander and Director Operations Moselle Air Traffic Control Centre in France. Ernie retired in Winnipeg, MB, on November 9, 1964, during Unification of the Armed Forces. He currently resides in Truro, NS, and is active in his community, including sitting on the Board of Directors for NS Crime Stoppers. Submitted by a friend. MacDONALD (FRANKLIN), Dorothy WWII Dorothy joined the CWAC in 1945 and trained in Kitchener, ON, then took a special course in Edmonton, AB, and was posted in Ottawa with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps. She was discharged in 1946 at Fredericton, NB. She is also a daughter of Sgt. Frederick MacDonald. Submitted by the Dieppe Branch #090 of The Royal Canadian Legion. www.ns.legion.ca 133
