WEBB, Judson Zephrine<br />
KOREA<br />
Judd was born in Westville, NS, in 1928, son of Fred and Annie (Power) Webb. He<br />
enlisted in the <strong>Canadian</strong> Army at Jerico Beach, BC, in 1952, and took training in<br />
Aldershot, NS, and Wainwright, AB. He served with Black Watch 2RHC and the<br />
1 st Commonwealth Division in Korea driving a jeep for senior officers. He was also<br />
in Tokyo with the Merchant Marines and was discharged in 1956 with rank of<br />
Private 1 st Class. He worked as a truck driver in Toronto from 1959 to 1981, and also<br />
worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation as a snow plow operator.<br />
He lives in Burnside with his companion, Edna Zinck.<br />

WENTZELL, Everette<br />
WWI<br />
Everette served in the 85 th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders) and was listed<br />
missing on October 30, 1917, during the heart breaking battle for Passchendaele. He<br />
was killed during the Highlanders’ successful, yet very costly, attack on an objective<br />
known to the troops by its battle designator of “Vienna Cottage” just west of the<br />
town of Passchendaele. Everette is memorialized on a regimental monument that<br />
now stands on the “start line” of their final battle overlooking the Vienna Cottage.<br />
His body was never recovered and he is formally memorialized upon the walls of<br />
the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium.<br />

WESSELL, Gilbert<br />
WWI<br />
Gilbert son of Aaron Wessell of Lunenburg County was born in 1865 and enlisted<br />
in WWI and was serving in Halifax, when on December 7, 1917, the city was<br />
devastated by the Halifax Explosion. He passed away in 1959.<br />

WESTHAVER, Russell Reginald<br />
WWI<br />
Russell enlisted in the CEF on October 20, 1915, in Halifax. Upon enlistment,<br />
Russell declared Maders Cove as his place of birth and gave his occupation as a<br />
being a “labourer.” He was assigned to the 85 th Battalion (Nova Scotia<br />
Highlanders). Sixty-two Highlanders were killed on September 2, 1918, during an<br />
attack on German positions at Scarpe, France. Russell was among the dead. The<br />
attack broke the German Drocourt-Queant line. His remains are buried in plot 1 A<br />
26 in the Dury Mill British Cemetery in France.<br />
