Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong><br />
DEYARMOND, Charles Proven<br />
WWI<br />
Charlie was born in Burnside in 1896, son of James William and Agnes (Wilson)<br />
Deyarmond, and served with the 76 th Regiment, <strong>Canadian</strong> Militia. After the war, he<br />
married Harriet Irene Wentzell. When she died, he returned to live with his aged<br />
parents in Burnside. Charlie passed away in 1937 and is buried in Proven Cemetery,<br />
Burnside.<br />

DEYARMOND, George Robert<br />
WWI<br />
Bob was born in Burnside in 1887, son of James William and Agnes (Wilson)<br />
Deyarmond, and joined the 106 th Battalion of the <strong>Canadian</strong> Army, Nova Scotia Rifles<br />
and was later transferred to the 25 th Battalion and went overseas and was wounded<br />
on Christmas Day, 1916, losing his sight in one eye. After this, he was attached to<br />
the Forestry Corps in France. In 1920, he married Ethel May Bentley, daughter of<br />
David Baldwin and Sarah Sophia (Henry) Bentley of Upper Stewiacke, and lived in<br />
Upper Stewiacke Village where Bob was employed at Blaikie’s Mill and acted as the<br />
village barber, cutting hair at his home. He passed away in 1979.<br />

DEYARMOND, Harold Leslie<br />
WWII<br />
Harold was born in Upper Stewiacke in 1924, son of Robert and Ethel (Bentley)<br />
Deyarmond, and enlisted in the RCAF in 1944 and was sent overseas where he<br />
served on Coastal Command until the end of the European Campaign. He was<br />
discharged in August 1945 with the rank of Flying Officer and returned to the RCAF<br />
again in June 1948 and was stationed in New Brunswick. He married Norma<br />
Cameron of Stewiacke and they resided in Moncton, NB.<br />

DEYARMOND, Lester Burton<br />
WWII<br />
Les was born in Burnside in 1908, son of Everett and Eudora (Fulton) Deyarmond,<br />
and enlisted in the <strong>Canadian</strong> Army in November 1941 and went overseas with the<br />
Forestry Corps. He came home on furlough in 1944 and joined the North Nova<br />
Scotia Highlanders and went overseas again to France and Germany and remained<br />
there until the war ended. After his discharge, he clerked at H.T. Fulton’s store in<br />
Upper Stewiacke Village and at the Co-op until he retired. Les passed away in 1991.<br />
