Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong><br />
BARRY, Dennis Jeremiah<br />
WWI<br />
Dennis was born in Maitland Forks on January 22, 1897 and joined the CEF at age<br />
18 on December 29, 1915 in Lunenburg, NS. He was a farmer and the son of<br />
Charlotte and James Barry. After training with the 112 Battalion (The Annapolis<br />
Regiment), Dennis would join many other Mahone Bay men in Nova Scotia’s 25 th<br />
Battalion (Nova Scotia Rifles). Dennis would die of wounds received during the<br />
Battle for Cambrai on October 1, 1918. His remains are buried in plot 2F 18 in the<br />
Canada Cemetery in Tilloy-les-Cambrai, France.<br />

BATEMAN, Cecil<br />
WWII<br />
Cecil was born in Liverpool, England, on August 5, 1926. He joined the British<br />
Army in 1944 and served in the United Kingdom. After the war, he came to Canada<br />
and joined the RCAF as an Air Navigator, retiring in 1972. Cecil was a resident of<br />
Middleton, NS, until his death on June 22, 2006.<br />

BATES, Horatio Hamilton<br />
WWI<br />
Horatio, born in 1888, was the son of George and Martha (Lays) Bates of Middle<br />
Stewiacke. He enlisted in 1916 while in British Columbia with the 131 st Battalion<br />
and went overseas. He was wounded at Agincourt, France, and sent back to BC. In<br />
1929, he returned to Middle Stewiacke where he spent the rest of his life working<br />
on the home farm with his brother, Borden. He represented Middle Stewiacke on<br />
Colchester Municipal Council for two terms. Horatio passed away in 1974.<br />

BEACH, Bernard Charles<br />
PEACETIME<br />
Bernard was born in Halifax, NS, in 1926 and served in the <strong>Canadian</strong> Army (Active<br />
Force) in Canada. He was a member of the Calais Branch #162 for 20 years. He<br />
passed away in 2006.<br />
