NASH, John William<br />
WWII<br />
John was born on August 6, 1923, in Dominion Cape Breton, NS, and served on the<br />
HMCS Pictou and others with convoys to and from England. He passed away on<br />
April 23, 2007.<br />

NELSON, Jean<br />
WWII<br />
Jean, daughter of William and Ruth (Archibald) of South Branch, was born in 1909,<br />
and became an RN and took training as a Military Nurse going overseas with the<br />
<strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Army Medical Corps in 1941. In 1943, she returned to Canada to<br />
organize No. 9 <strong>Canadian</strong> General hospital then returned overseas as Principal<br />
Matron of that group. She saw duty in England, France and Belgium and was<br />
promoted to the rank of Major. She returned to Canada in 1945, and worked as<br />
matron at Camp Hill Hospital until her retirement. Jean passed away in 1992.<br />

NEWTON, Willard<br />
WWI<br />
Willard, son of Charles and Agnes (Laird) Newton of Middle Stewiacke, was born<br />
in 1881 and served overseas with the 93 rd Battalion. After the war, he worked 35<br />
years as a section man with the CNR. He married Georgie McPhee of East Indian<br />
Road, Hants County. He passed away in 1976.<br />

NORSE, Thomas E.<br />
WWI<br />
Thomas of Middle Cornwall joined the CEF on December 2, 1914, in Halifax and<br />
was assigned to the 25 th Battalion (Nova Scotia Rifles). At the time of his<br />
enlistment, he was a 29-year-old shoemaker. Thomas was involved during the battle<br />
for Hill 62 in the Ypres Salient and was listed missing on December 2, 1916. His<br />
body was never recovered and he is memorialized along with 54,322 other<br />
Commonwealth war dead who were killed in Belgium but have no known graves on<br />
the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium.<br />
