Bachelor of Science in Education Degree Program<br />

The primary goal of the teacher education program is providing for the development of<br />

professional understanding of the processes and purposes of education, and the disposition<br />

and competencies that are essential to successful teaching. The following outcomes outline the<br />

knowledge, skills, and dispositions preservice teachers develop though course work, directed<br />

observation experiences, and student teaching in local schools. Program objectives are crossreferenced<br />

with the Alabama Quality Teaching Standards and are aligned with the Mission and<br />

Vision of <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>College</strong> Selma.<br />

A successful <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>College</strong> graduate:<br />

<strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers two majors in the Bachelor of Science in Education Program:<br />

Elementary Education prepares teachers for Kindergarten through 6 th grade and Early<br />

Childhood Education prepares teachers for Pre-school through 3 rd grade.<br />

Requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree include a total of 137 semester credit hours:<br />

Prospective teachers who pursue certification in Pre-school through 3 rd grade will follow the<br />

early childhood education curriculum. Early childhood teaching field courses include:<br />

ECE 300 Introduction to Early Childhood Education<br />

ECE 310 Instructional Strategies for the Young Child<br />

Prospective teachers who pursue certification in Kindergarten through grade 6 will follow the<br />

elementary education curriculum. Elementary Education teaching filed courses include:<br />

ELE 300 Elementary School Curriculum<br />

ELE 310 Teaching Social Studies in Elementary School<br />
