ENG 098 Preparatory English 3 hrs.<br />
Required as prerequisite to ENG 111 for entering freshmen who score below required minimum<br />
on the basic skills placement examination and the essay. Designed to develop proficiency in<br />
usage, mechanics, spelling and grammar and to introduce the writing process. Institutional<br />
credit only.<br />
ENG 101 Grammar 3 hrs.<br />
Required for students who score below or five points above the placement score for English<br />
Composition I. Designed to assist students who lack adequate proficiency in basic grammatical<br />
concepts.<br />
ENG 111 English Composition I 3 hrs.<br />
A study of the basic rhetorical principles of expository writing through analysis of model essays<br />
and the composition of essays.<br />
(Students who score 3 or higher on the Advanced English Placement Test will receive credit for<br />
EH 111.)<br />
Prerequisite: Satisfactory score on placement tests or a passing grade in ENG 098 and/or ENG<br />
101<br />
ENG 112 English Composition II 3 hrs.<br />
A continuation of EH 111. It includes the analysis of literature and the research paper. (Students<br />
who score 5 or higher on the Advanced English Placement Test will receive credit for EH 111<br />
and 112.)<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 111<br />
ENG 200 Introduction to Dramatic Arts 3 hrs.<br />
Introduction to Dramatic Arts is an entertaining, informative look into the art and profession of<br />
theatre. This hands-on course integrates intellectual stimulation with creative expression<br />
through lectures, class participation, and the chance to attend performances of live theatre.<br />
Students will study plays (both classical and contemporary), theatre history, and production –<br />
learning how a play evolves from page to stage. Students will also have the opportunity to<br />
collaborate on a creative project.<br />
ENG 205 General Speech 3 hrs.<br />
This course presents the fundamentals of voice and diction implemented through the various<br />
types of speech: public speaking, group discussion, oral interpretation, debate, and informed<br />
speech.<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 111<br />
