HPR 222 Personal & Community Health 2 hrs.<br />
A survey of vital health issues facing our society today. Major topics discussed are personal<br />
health problems, community and consumer health, human sexuality, physical and mental<br />
health, mental illness, harmful drugs, nutrition, diseases, family living and health care.<br />
HPR 223 Introduction to Physical Education 2 hrs.<br />
Origin, nature, and philosophy of physical education. Topics include the role of physical<br />
education in American education, the historical development of sports in American culture,<br />
professional opportunities in physical education, and physical movement as the keystone of<br />
physical education.<br />
HPR 224 Volleyball 1 hr.<br />
Skills in serving, spiking, blocking and passing. Practice and basic instruction in the<br />
fundamentals of volleyball.<br />
HPR 225 Recreational Games 1 hr.<br />
Instruction in leisure activities, emphasis on activities which prepare people of all ages for<br />
participating, directing, and supervising games and selected sports.<br />
HPR 226 Softball 1 hr.<br />
Practice and basic fundamental instruction in softball. Skills in throwing, catching, pitching, and<br />
batting.<br />
Interdisciplinary Studies<br />
IDS 009 Institutional Enrichment 1-6 hrs.<br />
Students will be allowed to earn from one to six hours per semester, a maximum of 12 hours<br />
during their enrollment at <strong>Concordia</strong>, by attending the Enrichment lab and working on<br />
approved, supervised, self-improvement projects in English and/or mathematics. 1-6<br />
Institutional credit hours, nontransferable.<br />
IDS 100 Interdisciplinary Skills 1 hr.<br />
This course is designed to help students formulate basic skills that will assist them in their<br />
college studies and personal life. The three main topics include basic computer skills, an<br />
introduction to personal financial concepts, and information literacy and research concepts.<br />
Upon completion, students will be able to utilize computers efficiently, handle personal<br />
finances, and receive an introduction to research resources and skills.<br />
IDS 300 Contemporary Issues 3 hrs.<br />
An interdisciplinary course which provides the opportunity for students to become sensitive to<br />
critical issues facing society, especially as these relate to the student’s particular area of study.<br />
This course encourages students to think critically about a broad array of contemporary issues<br />
and their effect on the larger society. This course may be repeated for credit.<br />
