A survey of American government’s structure, functions, and processes on the national level,<br />
including civil rights and liberties, major branches of government, political parties, interest<br />
groups, elections, policies and policy-making.<br />
Psychology<br />
PSY 110 General Psychology 3 hrs.<br />
An introduction to the scientific study of human behavior with emphasis on individual<br />
differences, perceptions, sensory functions, learning, emotions, motivation, thinking,<br />
personality, and investigative techniques used in psychology.<br />
PSY 200 Child Growth and Development 3 hrs.<br />
Studies the developmental stages of human beings from conception through adolescence<br />
focusing on biological processes, physical and perceptual development, learning, cognition and<br />
language development, social, spiritual and moral development and the development of<br />
personality. Field experiences required.<br />
Prerequisite: PSY 110<br />
PSY 201 Human Growth and Development 3 hrs.<br />
Human growth and development offers students an overview of physiological, cognitive,<br />
emotional, social, and moral development from conception through old age, including one's<br />
attitude toward death and dying.<br />
PSY 320 Abnormal Psychology 3 hrs.<br />
This course will explore mental disorders of adults and children based on the present Diagnostic<br />
Statistical Manual (DSM) including theories and research as to causes, symptomatology and<br />
treatment. Identifies the role of personnel including applications to education, health care, and<br />
community focus in dealing with mental conflict and fostering mental health.<br />
Reading<br />
REA 097 Preparatory Reading 3 hrs.<br />
This course is designed to develop student’s strategic approach to college thinking and learning<br />
across disciplines by including focused activities to improve reading comprehension and<br />
vocabulary development. This course also introduces basic research and presentations using<br />
technology. Students will explore the roles of memory, cognition, intelligence, and critical<br />
thinking in relation to active learning. Institutional credit only.<br />
