REL 110 History & Literature of the Old Testament 3 hrs.<br />
A survey of the Old Testament from creation to the beginning of the nation of the children of<br />
Israel and their return from exile. Particular attention given to God's redemptive work,<br />
Messianic prophecies, the Patriarchal Period and the authenticity and content of Old Testament<br />
books.<br />
REL 110 History & Literature of the New Testament 3 hrs.<br />
A survey of the New Testament with particular attention given to the life and teachings of Jesus<br />
Christ and the inception and growth of the Apostolic Church.<br />
REL 300 Lutheran Doctrine I 3 hrs.<br />
The study of Christian Doctrine as drawn from the Holy Bible and the Lutheran Confessions.<br />
Includes: Nature and Authority of Scripture, Natureof God, Creation, Nature of Humankind<br />
under Law and Grace, Person and work of Christ. Applications to the work, worship, and life of<br />
the Christian community.<br />
Prerequisites: REL 110 & REL 120<br />
REL 301 Lutheran Doctrine II 3 hrs.<br />
Continuation of Christian Doctrine I. Topics include the Means of Grace(Word and Sacraments),<br />
person and work of the Holy Spirit, justification, the Christian life, predestination, the Church,<br />
and eschatology.<br />
Prerequisite: REL 300<br />
REL 305 Christian Ethics 3 hrs.<br />
This course is designed to help students examine today’s world ethical issues from a Christian<br />
perspective. Topics include controversial global contemporary topics, issues, and positions.<br />
Upon completion of this course, candidates will be able to redefine and ground their Christian,<br />
social, and moral thinking within the Christian realm.<br />
REL 350 World Religions 3 hrs.<br />
This course surveys the major world religions: Primal Religions, Judaism, Christianity, Islam<br />
Hinduism, Buddhism, and African Traditional Religions. The course covers a brief history,<br />
theological structure, and their philosophical implications of those religions, yet the major<br />
emphasis is on current beliefs and their philosophical presuppositions that have impacted<br />
modern thinkers. Other topics of study may also be included, such as the nature of religion,<br />
tribal religions, and alternatives to religion.<br />
