Summary and objectives<br />
To enhance the food and livelihood security of erratic<br />
rainfall affected riverine communities and the capacity<br />
of the agriculture sector to undertake intensive<br />
food production under pressurised irrigation. To<br />
improve the year-round production, consumption<br />
and price stability of vegetables and fodder crops<br />
in the Alebu community.<br />
Target groups<br />
500 selected households in Haikota (30% are<br />
female-headed), totalling about 2 500 people.<br />
Final beneficiaries<br />
About 7 000 people in Alebu and 60 000 people in<br />
the Haikota sub-region.<br />

Summary and objectives<br />
The project’s specifi c objective is to enhance<br />
the capacities of farmers, the Agricultural Rural<br />
Development Offi ce and local actors, to co-<br />
implement productive strategies improving short and<br />
long-term food security in 7 woredas in Southern<br />
Nations, Nationalities and People’s Regional State<br />
(SNNPRS).<br />
Target groups<br />
20 000 families (120 000 people belonging to 68 sensitive<br />
kebeles in 7 woredas), with specifi c agricultural<br />
support to female-headed families.<br />
Final beneficiaries<br />
Rural families, which are most exposed to the threats<br />
identifi ed.<br />

and other vulnerable households, specifi cally through<br />
improving resilience to food insecurity and enhancing<br />
livelihood assets by creating and strengthening<br />
Village Savings and Lending Associations (mainly<br />
aimed at women), livelihood asset groups and grain<br />
banks.<br />
Target groups<br />
About 30 000 individuals (min. 70% women) from<br />
30 000 food-insecure households in 9 woredas<br />
(administrative divisions) in Oromia and 4 in SNNPR.<br />
