Summary and objectives<br />

To improve food security and reduce poverty in the<br />

Northern Uplands of Laos, by increasing the production<br />

and consumption of healthy food. By reducing<br />

the dependency on the purchase of food, the vulnerability<br />

to rising food prices will decrease.<br />

Target groups<br />

Smallholder farmers and local government authorities<br />

in three districts in the three provinces of<br />

Northern Laos – Phongsaly, Luang Prabang, and<br />

Huaphanh. Local authorities at provincial and district<br />

level, as well as the private sector, are also targeted<br />

by this project.<br />

Final beneficiaries<br />

The fi nal benefi ciaries of the action comprise the<br />

rural population in the Northern Uplands of Laos.<br />

Summary and objectives<br />

To achieve long-term food security in Attapeu by<br />

boost food production and self-suffi ciency.<br />

Target groups<br />

12 000 (population of 24 target villages), plus some<br />

541 government workers, village volunteers, health<br />

service providers, and village development committee<br />

members.<br />

Final beneficiaries<br />

55 378 (population of Sanxay, Phouvong and<br />

Xaysetha).<br />

Enhancing Milled Rice Production<br />

(EMRIP) in Lao PDR<br />

Summary and objectives<br />

To sustainably increase the production of good quality<br />

milled rice in Laos for domestic consumption and<br />

trade, and to improve the framework conditions for<br />

continued growth of the Lao rice sector, through the<br />

improvement of the infrastructure, technical capacities<br />

and the frame conditions required for a better<br />

production.<br />

Target groups<br />

Small and medium-sized rice millers, agricultural<br />

policy makers, and business development service<br />

providers.<br />

Final beneficiaries<br />

Approximately 20 000 smallholder commercial rice<br />

farmers, and 60 000 Lao rice consumers.<br />

Improving food security conditions<br />

for socio-economically excluded Dalit<br />

communities in Far-Western Nepal<br />

Summary and objectives<br />

To mitigate the negative impact of volatile food<br />

prices on small landholder Dalit farmers in Far and<br />

Mid-Western Nepal. The project aims to increase<br />

agricultural productivity through improved and diversifi<br />

ed agricultural techniques and best practices, boost<br />

income via livestock and agro-based initiatives, and<br />

enhance safety net programmes and access to food.<br />

Target groups<br />

9 000 households (450 Dalit farmers groups – 9 000 members,<br />

approximately 80% female and 20% male).<br />

Final beneficiaries<br />

60 000 women, men and children from target communities<br />

(12 000 households, 60% female and 40% male).<br />
