Summary and objectives<br />

To contribute chiefl y to sustainable economic<br />

growth in Senegal and also increase food security<br />

by developing a competitive local rice industry. More<br />

specifi cally, to increase rice productivity and production<br />

by 25 500 tons of paddy per year, promote<br />

private investment in agriculture by establishing<br />

farms as individual proprietorships or as Economic<br />

Interest Groupings (EIGs) on the perimeter, and<br />

improve the organisation and competitiveness of<br />

the rice industry.<br />

Rice growers, EIGs, and those in the rice production<br />

chain.<br />

Final beneficiaries<br />

Rural producers, consumers and local, regional and<br />

national markets.<br />

Target groups<br />

10 000 small-scale farmer families located in Fatick,<br />

Kaolack, Kaffrine and Kolda regions.<br />

Final beneficiaries<br />

Approximately 100 000 people, including family<br />

farms women and youth, active in small livestock<br />

and dairy production.<br />

Summary and objectives<br />

To improve food security and nutritional status of<br />

vulnerable families in 3 regions of Senegal, especially<br />

agricultural income diversifi cation, to help communities<br />

mitigate against volatile food prices and other<br />

shocks, and to improve governance, management<br />

and organisation of the agricultural sector.<br />

Target groups<br />

Vulnerable families, women and children, farmers,<br />

pastoralists and rural councils in 3 regions of<br />

Senegal.<br />

Final beneficiaries<br />

Vulnerable heads of households spread across gender,<br />

ethnicity and geographical location, who are<br />

able to act as role models in promoting activities in<br />

the three regions of Fatick, Kaffrine and Velingara.<br />

Rice Value Chain Development<br />

Summary and objectives<br />

To sustainably improve food security for population<br />

of northern Sierra Leone and to improve rice value<br />

chain in Koinadugu, Bombali and Tonkolili districts<br />

by better access to suitable seeds for 2 400 farmers,<br />

improving agriculture-based services, and encouraging<br />

investors to build storage facilities.<br />

Target groups<br />

120 farmer associations (2 400 rice farmers/producers<br />

– 70% youth, 40% women, and 80 village rice<br />

consultants and rice value chain actors including rice<br />

collectors, transporters, traders, and input suppliers).<br />

Final beneficiaries<br />

16 800 individuals in the Koinadugu, Bombali and<br />

Tonkolili districts.<br />
