To reduce the impact of food price increases on<br />
vulnerable households’ food security, through the<br />
sustainable development of Guinea’s small fi shing<br />
industry – achieved through providing equipment<br />
and training, building storage facilities, sensitising<br />
communities to sustainable management of fi shing<br />
resources and the creation of a coastal waters’<br />
surveillance system.<br />

Helping to implement measures to reduce by one<br />
third the number of rural households facing food<br />
insecurity within the fi ve targeted areas or in rural<br />
Guinea-Bissau, in the face of soaring prices for rice<br />
and other staple foods.<br />
Target groups<br />
15 village cooperatives, 35 seed producer organisations<br />
and 10000 households, which will receive<br />
the quantity of seeds required to meet their needs.<br />
Final beneficiaries<br />
Some 81 000 direct benefi ciaries, impacting on<br />
nearly 480 000 individuals, i.e. the entire rural populations<br />
of Cacheu, Oio, Quinara, Tombali and Bolama.<br />

Summary and objectives<br />
Promoting food security among most at-risk regions<br />
and populations by improving access to agricultural<br />
food products along with their availability and stable<br />
use. The project specifi cally aims to increase and<br />
diversify the agricultural production, to disseminate<br />
agro-processing technologies and strengthen local<br />
producers’ associations.<br />
Target groups<br />
Around 22500 farmers and producers (averaging<br />
2500 direct farmer benefi ciaries in each region) in<br />
relation to 9 to 12 projects selected with partner<br />
organisations.<br />

All inhabitants in the regions covered.<br />
