Summary and objectives<br />
The project aims to increase agricultural production<br />
and household food security through improved<br />
sustainable cropping systems in Kenya’s arid and<br />
semi-arid lands. It plans to establish 14 farmer fi eld<br />
schools for 42 farmer groups, provide training in<br />
improved dryland farming technologies, provide<br />
access to and distribute a variety of improved crop<br />
seeds and engage Ministry of Agriculture staff to<br />
ensure continued technical support for farmers.<br />
Target groups<br />
1 000 resource-poor farmers and 5 000 adopter<br />
farmers.<br />
Final beneficiaries<br />
11 000 resource-poor farming households in Kitui<br />
and Mwingi districts.<br />

Help the urban poor produce some of their own food<br />
through the Urban Agriculture approach “Garden<br />
in a sack”, kitchen garden techniques, greenhouse<br />
vegetable production in 7 greenhouses and poultry<br />
production.<br />
Target groups<br />
Vulnerable households in Kibera, Mathare, Kiambiu<br />
and Mukuru-Lunga Lunga.<br />
Final beneficiaries<br />
20 000 households (approximately 100 000 direct<br />
benefi ciaries).<br />

To contribute to improved livelihoods among pastoralist<br />
populations in greater Turkana district through<br />
improved food security and by strengthening production<br />
capacities and governance in the livestock<br />
sector.<br />
Target groups<br />
Agro-pastoralist communities in arid and semi-arid<br />
lands, with a special focus on vulnerable people and<br />
women, Turkana livestock sector workers and the<br />
Lomidat Pastoral Multipurpose Cooperative Society<br />
(LPMCS).<br />
Final beneficiaries<br />
About 300 000 Turkana pastoralists (women, men,<br />
youth/children), LPMCS (1 500 members) and meat<br />
consumers in regional markets.<br />

Summary and objectives<br />
To increase the incomes of local food producers and<br />
traders and the food security of consumers through<br />
the local purchase and distribution of food aid via<br />
local markets in marginal pastoral areas.<br />
Target groups<br />
10 000 structurally food-insecure households;<br />
8 000 local food producers; and 500 small and<br />
medium-sized traders.<br />
Final beneficiaries<br />
The general population in the targeted pastoral areas<br />
of Turkana and Wajir.<br />
