2007 Condrieu Coteau de Vernon_ ________________________ 109.99
“…Expansive aromas…deeply concentrated…extremely persistant finish…”
Steve Tanzer, rated 94/100
2006 Condrieu Coteau de Vernon_ ________________________ 99.99
100% Viognier. Average wine age is 60 years. “Very rich and lush, with lots of
butter, cream and peach flavors up front, pushed by notes of almond, warm
brioche, mango and green plum. Dense and muscular on the finish, this will
need to unwind a bit more. A truly rare Viognier that needs cellaring.” Wine
Spectator, rated 97/100
“Absolutely profound and one of the best made in a number of years.” Wine
Advocate, rated 96/100
“This remarkable bottling showed the longest finish of any Condrieu I tasted
this year.” Steve Tanzer, rated 93/100
2005 Cote-Rotie Maison Rouge___________________________ 99.99
100% Syrah. Average vine age is 40 years. “Gorgeous aromas of Turkish coffee,
warm fig bread and dark cocoa lead the way for a lushly layered palate of fig,
boysenberry and black currant paste notes. Very alluring, with ample structure
buried on the finish. Don’t overlook the reds at this Condrieu-based domaine;
they’ve really improved in the last few vintages.” Wine Spectator, rated 94/100
“Deep, bright red. Powerful aromas of palate, offering sweet, liqueur-like dark
berry flavors and a refreshing jolt of minerals. I looked for tannins but they
were buried under the sexy fruit. Finishes bright and delineated. This is far
more elegant than most wines from this vintage. The red wines from Vernay
have been going from strength to strength in recent vintages.” Steve Tanzer,
rated 92/100
2004 Cote-Rotie Maison Rouge___________________________ 89.99
100% Syrah. Average vine age is 40 years. “Shows a mix of sweet tea, black olive,
currant, sanguine and mineral notes, with a long, supple finish. The fresh acidity
lets the herb and mineral notes linger nicely.” Wine Spectator, rated
91/100
“Deep, rich, dark fruit aromas joined by spices and roasted herbs. Full and
round, with cherry and cassis flavors and more power than most ‘04s. Firms up
n the finish, picking up a spicy redcurrant quality and showing very good
length. Nicely focused for such a powerful wine.” Steve Tanzer, rated 90/100
2007 Cotes du Rhone St. Agathe__________________________ 23.99
2006 Saint-Joseph__________________________________ 29.99
100% Syrah. Average vine age is 25 years. “Shows plenty of racy purple and
black fruits, with notes of violet, dark licorice and sweet spice, all laid over
some solid grip on the finish. More like a 2005 than a 2006. Very solid.” Wine
Spectator, rated 92/100
2007 Viognier Le Pied de Samson_ ________________________ 29.99
100% Viognier. Average vine age is 15 years. “Fresh, tangy mix of peach, anise
and mineral notes, that all stay bright and pure on the finish. Drink now.
The Dream Team: Paul McBride, Chris Gorman, Ben Smith, Ryan Johnson,
Ross Andrew Mickel, Carolyn Lakewold, Mark Ryan McNeilly
Founded in 2004 by entrepeneur Paul McBride and vineyard manager Ryan
Johnson, Grand Reve introduces a new collaborative approach to winemaking in
Washington State. Ryan Johnson has been growing wine grapes on Red
Mountain for 11 vintages and is the vineyard manager for Ciel du Cheval,
Cadence Cara Mia, Quilceda Galitzine Estate, and DeLille Grand Ciel vineyards,
all located within Washington’s famed Red Mountain AVA.
By utilizing several of Washington State’s most accomplished winemakers:
each with prowess in different winemaking styles, combined with their finest
cultivated fruit, they achieve world-class quality across multiple varietals. This
effort is called the Grand Rêve Collaboration Series, and its all-star cast includes
Ben Smith (Collaboration I), Ross Mickel (Collaboration II), Mark McNeilly
(Collaboratin III), Carolyn Lakewold (Collaboration IV), Chris Gorman
(Collaboration V), and James Mantone (Collaboration VI).
“We intend to show how uncompromising attention to detail, progressive
viticulture practices, deep experience, care and passion in the vineyard can yield
profound wines of finesse, balance and character,” explains Johnson.
2004 Collaboration Series I_ _____________________________ 54.99
Ciel du Cheval Vineyard. 137 produced
64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 18% Petit Verdot
This release is their first library wine and the inaugural wine by Grand Rêve.
The nose leads with blue and red fruit, spice, and silky barrique. On the palate
it is a gorgeous mix of deep bright berry and caramel flavors, set in a plush
framework of sweet tannin and velvety texture. Great complexity and power
weave through the long finish. This wine will reward those patient enough to
cellar, but is delicious now to enjoy decanted.
2006 Collaboration Series IV_ ____________________________ 54.99
