2007 Dry White Bordeaux
“
Many properties in Graves and Pessac-Léognan produce white Bordeaux, and they can be very long-lived wines. 2007 is undeniably a top vintage for white
Bordeaux. The fruit was harvested under textbook conditions, and made from fully ripe Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle.” Wine Advocate
“
One of the great white wine vintages of recent years. The summer was never too hot, and saw big temperature differential between day and night - key for developing
white wine aromas.” Decanter
2007 Aile d’Argent___________________________________ 79.99
“(65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Semillon, harvested between
September 12 and 20) Fresh apricot and sappy white peach
lifted by floral and citrus notes. Supple and spicy, with excellent
floral intensity and a creamy but restrained honeyed sweetness
leavened by spearmint. Boasts superb fruit for this cuvee,
and finishes with exotic lingering perfume and a slightly phenolic
character. Just 25% of the wine went through malolactic
fermentation. Mouton-Rothschild produces around 1,500
cases of this white wine.” Steve Tanzer, rated 90-93/100
“Mouton’s white wine. Light straw. Very intense and just this side of oily - big
impact! Sweet side of Sauvignon Blanc with some lime and real density. Quite
creamy - even a hint of coconut cream. Exotic! Racy but with some real weight
too.” Jancis Robinson
“Another of the many Pessac-Léognan properties in the hands
of the Lurton family, this up-and-coming estate is run by
Laurent Cogombles, husband of Sophie Lurton. This white is
fresh, straightforward, but with a great balance between herbaceous
flavors and more weighty white fruits. It is the style of
white that opens slowly, satisfyingly, and could even be decanted”
2007 Ch. Carbonnieux Blanc_ ____________________________ 54.99
“Dominated by the grassy characters of Sauvignon Blanc, this is a tight wine,
almost cool in its character. The fruit skin tannins are very apparent, giving the
wine a crispness, layering acidity and a strong citrus element.” Wine Enthusiast,
2007 Ch. Fieuzal Blanc_ _______________________________ 84.99
“Good bright lemony color. Candied lemon peel, pineapple,
peach, fresh apricot and subtle leesy nuances on the rather
serious nose. Very ripe but with the vintage’s excellent cut to
the stone fruit and spice flavors. A sweet and voluminous wine
with lovely intensity and length. Nicely integrated, fresh acidity
frames the fruit and gives the finish a firm edge.” Steve
Tanzer, rated 90-93/100
“Fieuzal is showing style and promise under new director, Stephen Carrier, and
this white is a good indicator. It has forward, ripe white fruits that are lifted
with spicy wood and a great waft of herbaceous and citrus flavors. A delicious,
rich and aromatic wine.” Wine Enthusiast, rated 92/100
“Owned by France’s national agricultural
research institute, this
estate has been curiously underperforming
until the last two vintages.
This 2007, almost entirely
Sauvignon Blanc, continues the
improvement, a deliciously fresh,
herbaceous wine, with a currant
freshness on top of grapefruit and
lime.” Wine Enthusiast, rated
“(A 80/20 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon) Very pale
yellow. Ripe white peach complicated by flowers, mint and
spicy oak on the nose. Juicy and vibrant on the palate, with
a lanolin richness cut by lemon zest, spring flowers and mint.
Very spicy, subtle finish is framed and extended by the wine’s
firm acidity. At once rich and vibrant, in the style of the
vintage.” Steve Tanzer, rated 89-92/100
“Light, green fruits - very juicy. Nice easy mouthful with good length. Sweet
citrus and smoky bacon notes. Some depth and fruit concentration to balance
the acidity. Powerful, zesty and just in balance.” Jancis Robinson
“A truly grassy aroma leads to a fresh, herbaceous and crisp wine. To top its
crispness, it also has some weight, wood flavors and a creamy core with a white
pear texture. It could benefit from aging, at least three years, to bring out the
inherent richness of the wine.” Wine Enthusiast, rated 93/100
2007 Ch. Malartic Lagraviere Blanc_ ________________________ 74.99
“An intense wine, this is certainly full-bodied, but has fruit
weight and concentrated power to match. Beautiful yellow
stone fruits—apricots, peaches—are super ripe, their richness
allied to sweet acidity, pink grapefruit tones and a smooth,
almost oily texture. The one downside is the alcoholic burn
that shows through, an unfortunate end to an otherwise spectacular
wine.” Wine Enthusiast, rated 90/100
2007 Ch. Latour Martillac Blanc
“Bright, pale color. White peach, underripe
nectarine, licorice and lime on the
sappy nose. In a very fresh style, with a
slight youthful hard edge to the flavors of
lemon and grapefruit peel. Almost austere
today but with a sappy quality that is currently
masking the wines underlying density.
This grew thicker with aeration,
showing a lime leaf element reminiscent
of Sancerre and finishing with notes of
vanilla and honey.” Steve Tanzer, rated
“Extremely fresh and primary in the mouth, with rare intensity and stylishness
for this cuvee, which is made from a single hectare of vines
planted to 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sauvignon Gris
and 5% each Muscadelle and Semillon. There’s terrific cut
and lift to the flavors of spices, fresh herbs and honey; a
bit like chewing on grapes today. Finishes very long, pure
and perfumed. Promises to be the finest and most complex
vintage yet for this rare white wine from St. Emilion.” Steve Tanzer, rated 90-
“(a blend of 40% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Semillon, 16% Sauvignon Gris and
9% Muscadelle) Lemon-yellow color. Sexy aromas of pineapple,
lemon and minerals, along with a resiny honeyed suggestion.
Very rich and fat, with a slight youthful aggressiveness to
the expansive flavors of mirabelle and honey. Impressively full
wine, finishing with a slightly phenolic character and a flavor
of ripe pineapple. For all its power, this also displays an elegant
side.” Steve Tanzer, 90-93/100
“One of the oldest vineyards in Bordeaux, founded by Pope
Clément in the 14th century. This white is full, rich, packed with white fruits.
It shows crispness, toast and spice, already well integrated.” Wine Enthusiast,
rated 92/100
2007 Ch. Reynon Blanc_ _______________________________ 19.99
“This is a finely made wine, bringing out really concentrated herbaceous flavors,
almost New Zealand in their intensity. It is fresh, green, grassy, ready to
drink now.” Wine Enthusiast, rated 90/100
2007 Ch. Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc__________________________ 99.99
“Knockout nose offers lemon drop, pineapple, white flowers and
minerals. Dense, lush and sweet but leavened by piquant acidity;
offers a rare combination of silky volume and inner-mouth
energy and perfume. Lovely intensity of lemon and pineapple
flavor. Finishes quite firm, even a bit youthfully bitter, but with
terrific length and lift. I can’t recall a more promising white wine
from this property.” Steve Tanzer, rated 91-94/100
“This is rich, but the balance of the wine is excellent, the wood very much
underneath the smooth, opulent apricot and pear fruits. There is spice, which
adds a fine piquancy to the texture. The finish is vivid, still young, needing at
least five years to age.” Wine Enthusiast, rated 94/100
2007 Ch. La Louviere Blanc______________________________ 42.99
“Pungent aromas of green melon, lemon, mint and white
flowers. Lively and energetic, with excellent cut to the citrus
and mineral flavors. In a very juicy style, and distinctly firmedged
on the finish, with the brisk citrus and floral flavors
joined by resin and spicy nuances. The wine’s harmonious
acidity serves to intensity its flavors.” Steve Tanzer, 88-
90/100
“Rich and creamy, this wine has weight as well as the hallmark
freshness of 2007. The yellow fruits and spicy pear flavors are smoothed out
with spice, with some herbaceous elements and a fine waft of apple skin structure.”
2007 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc_ _________________________ 129.99
“Explosively sappy, perfumed nose offers fresh apricot,
grapefruit peel, flowers and spices. Dense yet weightless
in the mouth, with wonderfully silky sweetness to the
gripping flavors of lemon, flowers and spices. A wine of
almost painful intensity and sappy cut. This saturates the
mouth with chewy fruit and perfume, finishing with an
exotic suggestion of coconut. The blend includes an unusually high 90% sauvignon
blanc, as there was a lower semillon crop than usual.” Steve Tanzer,
