“Dense but racy, thanks to plenty of fine-grained tannins that carry the shaved
vanilla bean, black currant paste, fig and loam notes through a superlong finish.
Shows a Maipo profile with a Bordeaux-like structure; needs cellaring to fill out
fully.” Wine Spectator, rated 95/100
Rated 94/100, Wine Advocate
“Nice alluring aromas of cocoa powder, cedar and currant preserve—this is
admirably ripe for the vintage—with well-structured plum sauce, graphite,
loam and spice flavors moving through the fine-grained finish.” Wine Spectator,
“The 2002 Almaviva is the finest produced to date by this joint venture between
Vina Concha y Toro and the Baron Philippe de Rothschild. This Cabernet
Sauvignon-based wine has a saturated, opaque, black ruby color as well as nose
of sweet dark fruits, spices, and vanilla-laced smoky new oak. On the palate,
this medium to full-bodied effort is broad, lush, and velvety-textured.
Blackberries, cassis liqueur, and black cherries make up this deep, seamless
wine’s flavor profile. It is concentrated, has outstanding balance, and a long,
suave, ripe tannin-filled finish.” Wine Advocate, rated 93/100
wines of unbelievable
depth, complexity,
and concentration…Thévenet
is making highly
acclaimed wines
that are out of the
ordinary…far and way Clessé’s top producer…” Robert Parker
“As my tasting notes clearly demonstrate, these wines possess not only the ability
to improve, but to last for decades. If you have never tasted the Thevenet wines,
you owe it to yourself to give one a try.” Allen Meadows, Burghound
“…exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color as well as more subtle smoke, graphite,
damp earth, creme de cassis, and blackberry characteristics, and a youthful, fullbodied
mouthfeel with impressive concentration, texture, and length. This blend
of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc from high
elevation vineyards (2,000 feet) is capable of lasting two decades or more.” Wine
Advocate, rated 93+/100
“Cherry preserves, cassis, pipe tobacco and dried flowers on the nose, with a sexy
note of oak spice emerging with air. Juicy and gently sweet red and dark berry
flavors are complemented by notes of bitter chocolate and cherry pit, with a hint
of spicy tobacco on the back end. At once deep and graceful, with strong finishing
cut and a lingering note of bitter cherry.” Steve Tanzer, rated 93/100
“Reveals more restrained as well as more noble aromatics of crushed rocks, poached
pears, and hints of pineapples, orange rind, and candied citrus. Medium to fullbodied
with very good acidity, admirable purity, and a long finish, it is best drunk
during its first decade of life some of these Chardonnays can last 20 years or more.”
Wine Advocate, rated 93/100
Rated 96/100, Wine Enthusiast
“Bright yellow-gold. Fresh orange, fig and pear skin aromas are complemented by
Jeffrey & Ellie Patterson, Proprietors
tarragon and cinnamon, with a suave note of marzipan coming up with air. Juicy
and fresh, with sweet citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a stony underpinning.
Gains flesh and richness on the strikingly long finish while maintaining vivacity.
This is delicious now but is balanced to repay at least six to eight years of patience.”
Steve Tanzer, rated 94/100
“Simply delicious, a rich buttery style, with ripe, vivid and delicate peach, pear and
honeydew melon fruit that’s complex, concentrated and full-bodied, offering
excellent length and depth. Creamy oak adds a touch of smoke and vanilla. The
texture is silky. Drink now though 2016.” Wine Spectator, rated 96/100
“…reveals a darker ruby color as well as more forest floor/floral character intermixed
with sweet black cherry, wild strawberry, and spicy notes. There is no evidence
of any oak in this full-bodied Pinot. With silky smooth tannins, impressive
richness, and admirable elegance, minerality, and purity, it will be even better in
4-5 years, and should last for 12-15+ years.” Wine Advocate, rated 95/100
