International Rosé
“Savvy sippers in Europe have long known the power of pink. Rosé wines are not only refreshing, but they pair with a great
range of food from salads and seafood to steak. But in this country, they’ve often been the unfashionable clunky shoes at a
party full of sexy high heels. However, that’s starting to shift as rosé wines are experiencing a renaissance of sorts in the
New World. More rosé is being imported into the United States than ever before, and California winemakers are also producing
more of it. Wine drinkers are realizing the new breed of dry rosés is not the sweet stuff of years past.” Drinks
2004
Br unello di Montalcino
“A classic vintage, wonderfully perfumed and
majestically refined.” Wine Spectator
“One of Italy’s greatest wines had one of its biggest
and best-ever vintages in 2004.” Decanter
2007 Chateau Rollat Ardenvoir Rose Columbia Valley_________________ 14.99
“As one might expect, this is Washington rosé with a French touch, courtesy of
consulting winemaker Christian LeSommer. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon,
Merlot and Cab Franc, given a four-hour soak and then fermented in neutral oak,
it is exceptional in every way. Silky and flavorful with a mix of peach and strawberry,
vanilla cookie and amazing length.” Wine Enthusiast, rated 90/100
2007 Kapcsandy State Lane Rosé Napa Valley_ ____________________ 24.99
“An atypically deep colored, full-bodied, dry rosé with loads of personality… it is
bursting with character.” Robert Parker
Robert Parker wrote that Kapscandy’s 2006 was “the finest rosé I’ve tasted in years.”
While the 2006 just sold out, the new 2007 is even better! Very limited, as only a
few hundred cases are made.
2008 Niebaum Coppola Sofia Pinot Noir Rosé Carneros________________ 17.99
The 2008 Rosé exudes aromas of fresh strawberries and rose petals. Bright and
lively, this wine offers generous flavours of juicy black cherry, raspberry and kiwi
fruit while being dry and refreshing on the palate.
2008 Sola Rosa Rosé Russian River__________________ 16.99
This year, the classic SoloRosa blend is made principally from Syrah
and Pinot Noir grapes sourced exclusively from the Russian River
Valley. The wine offers an intriguingly spicy hint of fruit but
remains dry in the signature SoloRosa style.
From France
2009 Chateau de Ségriès Tavel Rosé__________________________ 15.99
The 2008 Tavel Rose received 90 pts from Robert Parker - “A brilliant, big-boned,
brawny, dry rose with plenty of flavor.”
2008 Château D’Esclans Whispering Angel_ ______________________ 18.99
Two Thumbs up. Pleasant, with flavors and aromas of raspberries and trawberries.
It also offered some interesting notes of spiced almonds, but not a crisp and/or
refined as the other three.
2007 Château D’Esclans Esclans_ ____________________________ 24.99
Two Thumbs up. Light, bright and pleasant, it had charming aromas and flavors
of minerals, flowers and red berries. Quite refreshing and the most straight forward
of the four.
Our Favorites
2009 Tensley Lea Tierra Alta Syrah Rosé
Jennifer (Joey’s wife) makes her rosé from a single vineyard and a single clone, in this case the Tablas 99 clone from Tierra Alta
vineyard. Jennifer and her six-year-old son Oliver crushed the grape for this Rosé with their feet (their very clean feet). Half of the
fruit remained on the skins for only three hours before being pressed to neutral French oak barrels. The other half stayed on the
skins overnight before going into barrel. The resulting wine is rich in color with a silky, rounded mouthfeel and a crisp, refreshing
finish. Look for notes of rose petals, strawberries, and guava complemented by hints of earth and minerality.
This wine pairs beautifully with spicy Mexican or Asian dishes as well as the Cajun cuisine of
Jennifer’s hometown, New Orleans - who dat! It should be enjoyed over the next two years.
162 cases produced.
2008 Domaine Lafond Tavel_ ______________________________ 16.99
“Fair prices and exuberant fruit make it easy for Domaine Lafond’s wines to attract
fans. Whether it be their exquisite Tavel rose, their delicious Cotes du Rhones, or
their most ambitious wines, the Chateauneuf du Papes, all are noteworthy efforts.”
Wine Advocate
2009 Domaine de la Mordorée Côtes du Rhône_ ___________________ 14.99
Pink, slightly orange color (mordorée color). Aromas of crystallized oranges and
cherries, hints of aniseed. Very round palate, fresh and a long finish.
2009 Domaine de la Mordorée Tavel_ _________________________ 22.99
Steady pink, brilliant and limpid color. Very complex nose with flowers, red and
white fruits aromas. Round, full bodied with a long lasting aniseed and fruity finish.
2008 Domaine de la Mordoree Tavel_ _________________________ 19.99
Selected by Robert Parker as “One of The World’s Great Wine Estates.” He also
said, “Some of the finest rosés from southern France emerge from Mordoree.”
Tavel has often been called the king of rosé.
2008 Domaine Ott Bandol Rosé Les Domaniers_ ___________________ 21.99
Within the past few years, Domaine Ott has skyrocketed in popularity among the
hip European crowd, and this sophisticated rosé is now all the rage on the east
coast as well. This unique Domaine Ott has a bouquet of aromatic fruits and
spices, along with apricot and grapefruit. Delicate, vivid flavors of the grape dance
across the palate, offering a refreshing counterpoint to a wide spectrum of fresh
summer dishes.
From South Africa
2009 Mulderbosch Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé______________________ 11.99
“This is almost criminally inexpensive for such an utterly charming wine that takes
you right into a field of strawberries on a beautiful, clear day.” Wall Street Journal
From South America
Joey Tensley
2009 Maipe Malbec Rosé_ ____________________ 12.99
Dry in the style of European Rosés, this is as elegant and inspiring
as a walk through the rose garden midsummer. You will
definitely want a bottle or to of this ruby beauty for lunch or
dinner.
