HOUSTON_ TEXAS--Astronaut Donn F. Eisele will leave the Manned<br />

Spacecraft Center in mid-June to become Technical Assistant (Manned<br />

Flight) at <strong>NASA</strong>'s Langley Research Center_ F_mpton_ Virginia.<br />

Eisele_ 397 _ill be assigned to the Space Systems Research Division<br />

as a consultant and advisor on manned systems in which the Langley center<br />

is conducting studies. They include the Space Shuttle and Space Station<br />

Programs_ Skylab experiments_ and life support research.<br />

A lieutenant colonel_ Eisele will remain in the Air Force. "I<br />

have served on prime and backup crews of four different spaceflight<br />

assignments. Now that manned flights have been stretched out and<br />

considering that there are numerous qualified astronauts who have not<br />

yet flow_ I believe ih is time for me to move on," Eisele said.<br />

"I have accepted this new assignment because it will afford an<br />

opportunity to broaden the scope of my participation in spaceflight<br />

activities and thereby enhance my effectiveness in the total space<br />

effort_" he said.<br />

Eisele has been a <strong>NASA</strong> astronaut since October 1963. He was the<br />

co_and module pilot for the il-day Apollo 7 mission in October, 1968.<br />

Apollo 7 was the first manned flight test of the Apollo command and<br />

service modules. With Spacecraft Commander Walter M. Schirra_ Jr._<br />

and Lunar Module Pilot Walter Cunningham, Eisele performed transposition<br />

and docking and lunar orbit rendezvous exercises with the S-IVB stage of<br />
