HOUSTON_ TEXAS--Dale D. Myers, vice president and general manager<br />

of the Space Shuttle Program at North American Rock_ell Corp., has been<br />

appointed Associate Administrator for Manned Space Flight of the National<br />

Aeronautics and Space Administration.<br />

He succeeds Dr. George E. Mueller who left <strong>NASA</strong> December 10 to<br />

become a vice president of General Dynamics Corp. in New York City.<br />

Myers will be responsible for the planning, direction, execution<br />

and evaluation of <strong>NASA</strong>'s overall manned space flight program. These<br />

functions include H_nageraent authority over the George C. Marshall<br />

Space Flight Center, Huntsville_ Alabama; Manned Spacecraft Center,<br />

Houston; and the John F. Kennedy Space Center, Florida.<br />

Myers has been in charge of North American Rockwell's space shuttle<br />

program since June 1969. Prior to that he had been vice president and<br />

general manager of the Apollo Con_mand and Service Module work since<br />

February 1968 and vice president and Apollo Program Manager since April<br />

1964.<br />

He joined North American Aviation in June 1943 as an aeronautical<br />

engineer and was project aerodynamicist on the F-82_ XSNJ and XI_J-1<br />

airplanes. He developed the basic methods used by the company for<br />

stability and control analyses, including the effects of aeroelasticity<br />

on beth dynamic and static stability.<br />
