Neil A. Armstrong and the flight director during the critical Apollo<br />

11 lunar surface landing maneuvers_ Eugene F. Kranz, will receive the<br />

Arthur S. Flemming Award in Washington_ D. C._ Thursday_ February 19.<br />

The award is presented annually by the Downtown Jaycees of<br />

WashinFton to ten young men in civil service in recognition of their<br />

outstanding and meritorious service in the Federal Government.<br />

The award will be presented at a noon luncheon in the Grand Ballroom<br />

of the Mayflower Hotel. The Honorable George Romney, Secretary of the<br />

Department o_' Housing and Urban Development_ will be the guest speaker.<br />

Armstrong_ a civilian aerospace engineer and test pilot of the<br />

National Aeronautics and Space Administration_ was commander of the<br />

Apollo 11 spacecraft which made the first lunar landing July 20_ 1963 .<br />

Kranz is Chief of the Flighv Control Division at the <strong>NASA</strong> Manned Spacecraft<br />

Center, Houston, Texas.<br />

The award for 1969 brings to 16 the number of men who have earned<br />

ahe Fle_ning Award while employei by <strong>NASA</strong>. The other 14 are:<br />
