The National Aeronautics and Space Ad_inistration has signed a<br />

supplemental agreement with Hamilton Standard Division_ United Aircraft<br />

Corporation_ Windsor Locks_ Connecticut valued at $5,461,203<br />

for changes in the Apollo portable life support system (PLSS) contract.<br />

The agreement formally incorporates into the contract changes<br />

permitting the PLSS to accept an improved communications system supplied<br />

by <strong>NASA</strong>. The communications system was developed under a separate<br />

contract with the Radio Corporation of America to permit two astronauts<br />

to work simultaneously outside the spacecraft on the lunar surface.<br />

The contract provides for addition of a carbon dioxide sensor<br />

to the portable life support system beginning with the Apollo 14 mission.<br />

It also incorporates previous modifications to ground support equipment<br />

and requalification of the system completed prior to Apollo 11 for<br />

increased vibration and thermal conditions.<br />

The Apollo pop-table life support system is built by Hamilton<br />

Standard at its Windsor Locks facility. The supplemental agreement<br />

increases the total estimated value of the Hamilton Standard PLSS<br />

contract to $53,1727186.<br />
