HOUSTON, TEXAS--Sigurd A. Sjoberg was named Director of<br />

Flight Operations of the Manned Spacecraft Center effective<br />

December 28, 1969.<br />

Sjoberg assumes his new duties after having served as<br />

Deputy Director, Flight Operations since October 1963. He<br />

succeeds Dr. christopher C. Kraft, Jr., who was recently<br />

appointed Deputy Director of MSC.<br />

Since joining MSC in October 1959, Sjoberg has held<br />

successively responsible operations positions. He joined<br />

NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics), <strong>NASA</strong>'s<br />

predecessor in 1942 as an aeronautical engineer.<br />

As Director, Sjoberg will be responsible for the management<br />

and direction of four organizational divisions within<br />

FOD. This directorate is responsible for mission planning<br />

and for overall direction of flight control and recovery<br />

activities associated with all <strong>NASA</strong> manned space flight<br />

activities.<br />
