contain sound or possess a story – it rather features a somewhat ambiguous atmosphere<br />

that hints at something that could be a story.”<br />

Zlatan Vehabović is a young painter born in 1982<br />

who is currently a post-graduate at the Academy<br />

of Fine Arts in Zagreb, and he has won numerous<br />

prestigious awards while also being portrayed<br />

by the critics as one of the most interesting painters to<br />

emerge over the last several years. He is recognizable<br />

for his large-sized canvases that always feature a human<br />

figure. He displays motifs of childhood, somewhat<br />

removed, unusual images that slightly evoke memories<br />

of a dream or are a part of a bigger universal story,<br />

a huge archive of partly forgotten images, which are<br />

sometimes real and sometimes false. The narrative<br />

aspect and the non-threatening, but still impressive<br />

grandeur of the compositions, the epic strength that<br />

wriggles through the images and calls upon the continuation<br />

of the story, as well as the sheer distinction<br />

and power of Vehabović’s paintings, have made him<br />

one of the most promising young artists, whose time is<br />

yet to arrive.<br />
