Library<br />
The state-of-the-art Library of the Institute is a learning resource centre of the Institute that meets the<br />
requirements of the students and teachers with respect to the academic programmes and syllabi of WBUT.<br />
The Library provides them with modern and technologically advanced amenities with respect to books,<br />
journals, e-sources as well as live-coverage of special lectures and seminars.<br />
The Library is situated in the heart of the academic complex of the Institute, in the Ground Floor of the<br />
main building. The Library has a collection of over 2000 titles and over 39,000 volumes. Besides the<br />
printed journals, the Library subscribes to 85 online IEEE and other journals and provides access to IEEE<br />
online database. (See Annexure AI for the journals subscribed). The functions and services of the Library<br />
are fully computerised. In addition, the Library provides with the digital library facility to students. Besides<br />
the general lending, the students are also entitled to accessing books from the Book Bank of the Library<br />
and retaining them for a defined semester. It has a well maintained stock of CD-ROMs, DVDs, Project<br />
Reports and Thesis. The students are given access to fully automated circulation facilities through LIBSYS<br />
Software package (an integrated multi-user library system). The Library remains open even beyond the<br />
Institute hours for the benefit of students and teachers. Further, in order to promote awareness about the<br />
Library among the users, the Library organises Exhibitions on various subjects on a regular interval.<br />
The Library also has access to the most of the premier Journals of IEEE, IET, WILEY, etc. Students may<br />
directly access not only print journals but also online journals including Scientific American, National<br />
Geographic, Asian Journal of Control, IEEE Communication Society Digital Library, Proceedings of IEEE,<br />
and many more. A list of journals available in the Library is provided in Annexure AI.<br />
Computer Centre<br />
The Computer Laboratory of the Department of Computer<br />
Science and Engineering provides the ‘Computer Centre’ to the<br />
Institute. The Centre, in turn, provides the Internet facilities of<br />
4Mbps bandwidth. The Wi-Fi service, provided through six<br />
powerful antennas, is available for all the students and teachers<br />
of the Institute, which covers the Institute Administrative Office,<br />
the Departments, Boys Hostel, Girls Hostel, and Guest House.<br />
Further, the Centre is equipped with the facilities such as High-<br />
End Server, modern online UPS, 150 P-IV computers and 566<br />
core i3 computers (Lenovo Think Centre) with 100 Mbps LAN<br />
facilities for all the computer and supporting accessories like<br />
Dot Matrix Printers, LaserJet Printer, DVD Writers, Scanners,<br />
LCD Projectors, etc. The software’s of the Centre include 6<br />
operating system Windows 2008, Windows 2007, Windows Vista,<br />
Windows XP (all Windows operating systems under Microsoft<br />
Campus License), Linux, Fedora and 36 application software:<br />
Visual Studio 2010, Office 2007/2010, Turbo C++ 4.5, Java, Lab<br />
view, Etap, My power, Multi Sim, Caspic, PiceSpice, Tech-MO ,<br />
Tech-Term, Tanner, Code Composer Studio, Xilinx, etc.<br />
Language Laboratory<br />
Students have access to the Language Laboratory which is<br />
equipped with the facilities as per the norms of WBUT, which<br />
help students develop their skill in expressing their ideas. IIT-<br />
STEP, Kharagpur has further updated the Laboratory to make it<br />
one of the best of its kind in the country. In this Laboratory,<br />
students go through intensive practice in listening, reading,<br />
speaking and writing, (LRSW skills) which help them enhance<br />
their interpersonal, business, and technical communication skills.<br />
The course offered by the state-of-the-art Laboratory includes<br />
the phonetic symbols which will augment their pronunciation<br />
ability, the intonation and stress, through audio cassettes, CDs,<br />
VCDs, prepared by the professionals on the subject such as OUP,<br />
BBC and The British Institutes.<br />
Students are encouraged to learn the language through creative<br />
and innovative methods and activities such as Group Discussions,<br />
Mock Interviews, Role Plays and Oral Power Point Presentations.<br />
Their participation in the GD and Mock Interviews are recorded<br />
and later shown to them as a feedback for the improvement of<br />
the specific skills they lack in. Students are trained in this<br />
Laboratory with the method of oral presentation of their research<br />
papers at Conferences as well (see Annexure BI). Further, this<br />
Laboratory encourages our students to take up hardware projects<br />
on the development of the sensors for monitoring the noise levels<br />
in verbal presentations, moods of speakers, etc.<br />
